Default My Dad Gave Me His Childhood Card Collection

My Dad brought over his card binders from when he was a kid and gave em to me. Pulled some of the nicer cards out, Will take more pictures of stuff later this weekend. From what I see he collected from around 1973-1981.

Sadly most cards were in binders without sleeves and the edges and corners on a lot of the cards are pretty messed up and look like these.

But here's some cards that are in relatively good shape!

These are the 2 nicest ones I found that I actually would like to grade!

Your dad is from my generation. We played with our cards and trashed them. Your dad’s cards look mint compared to mine from that time.

Yea. He said he would always take them in and out of the binders during football and baseball games and make his own starting lineups

And that is why the hobby was much better back in the day.

Very nice! I actually think they look pretty good for raw cards of the era. The 1975s are way nicer then the 2 I have in my set.

I was like ur dad I would pull out my cards during games and look up stats of batters or whoever made a play. I still read the backs of any vintage card I pick up lol.

I love reading the backs of any cards I pick up. Stats are always something I look at, and get bummed if there's no stats, especially for base cards

I still need to pick one up. I feel like they're just going to keep getting more expensive in the short term.

my dad just told me collecting sports cards was a waste of money as a kid.

I was heavy into collecting from 72-76, then girls. Then came back for junk wax, then the strike in 94 soured me. Then i started again in 2011 chasing Cam Newton, and here i am.

Those are great for the era. I had 1971 Nolan Ryan i used to keep folded in my back pocket. We used our cards.

That Rickey Henderson is my all time favorite card as a kid. I just sent one into grade that is pretty similar to yours. I want to also start collecting vintage football cards. The card I always wanted was a mint Lawrence Taylor rookie. I look for raw ones on ebay every day!

Exactly

My big kid years was the 80's but as you say.... then girls. Now that I've been shackled to the same one for years I got back into collecting as a way of compensating I guess.
