Lightbulb 2005-06 The Cup Sidney Crosby RPA 52/99 Graded BGS 10 Pristine

What a time to be a hockey card collector right now.

Between this and the McDavid Jersey numbered Cup Rookie Patch Auto /99, we're seeing some of the two most popular modern day hockey cards ever, both up for auction. At the same time.

What do you think this Crosby goes for?

$75k+ but I wouldn't trust it being a PWCC card

Good guess! I think the Crosby will be 150k USD, maybe more.

The Jersey Numbered McDavid RPA 97/99, which is also at auction right now, is already at 75k USD.

The McDavid cup card that recently sold was his jersey number 97/99, I'm curious to think what Crosby 87/99 would go for.

That would be one awesome auction to follow as well.

Has this card ever surfaced publicly? Does anyone know?

Shouldn’t it have patch auto on the slab and not jersey?

Using the solid colour portion of a patch on a card of this caliber- while somewhat understandable given the number of patch cards produced across all the product lines- to me is still unacceptable. The Cup is the pinnacle of UD hockey products- only the best materials should be used.
Probably why it was noted as a jersey auto on the slab

I have to disagree to a certain extent. These cards are actually made from game used, every piece of a rookie gamer like this has to be used. Unlike RPAs today that are all photoshoot, this brings the possibility of some amazing swatches and some ok swatches. Variety in condition, autograph and swatch colors should be encouraged in the hobby. Otherwise why not just make every cup RPA a three + color swatch?

The real outrage should be companies continuing to use fake swatches in high end products.

I always ask myself , when Sid hangs them up , will these cards garnish the same interest ? I know its the Original Cup release , there game used. Even with all the hardware he won , gold medals , Cups. He still has only 6 100+ pts season. Nothing earth shattering goals/pts wise. I know he`s probably the best all around player of is generation but will people still fork the same $$$ on his cards 10-20 years from now ?

He lost prime years to concussions and as he gets older he seems to focus more on winning than individual accomplishments. He knows the scoring race is a young man's game and would rather just get to playoffs healthy and go for more Cups.

He will always have his Cups, especially the back to back that is nearly impossible to do in the modern NHL. The Golden Goal will never be forgotten either. Neither will any of his junior or Olympic gold medals. First ballot Hall of Famer lock.

And 10-20 years from now you will have an entire generation of kids who grew up idolizing Crosby reaching adulthood and spending money on things that remind them of their youth much like people are going nuts for 90's stuff today. There will be plenty of demand for his cards in the future and far less supply compared to current guys like McDavid.

Crosby has been the best player in the league since Gretzky and Mario.

Sid is the greatest player and Obie has been the greatest goal scorer. It’s been a blast watching these two on the ice for the past 10+ years.
