i've always been confused and have never found any written rules. if a card is off center 70-30 how many 16ths or 32nds does it measure off and if its 55-45 top to bottom what is the max grade it can obtain 6-7 or higher? i've only graded a few cards and am often confused with the result. beckett guide lines are vague at best.

PSA explains their centering requirements here:
https://www.psacard.com/resources/gr...andards/#cards Maybe this would help you: https://forums.collectors.com/discus...mment_12439220 The 55/45 is a percentage. For example, a card with a width of 2.5 inches may have a border all around of 1/8th an inch (=4/32's). If one side is actually 3/32 and the other is 5/32, then the centering would be measured as 5/8 (the denominator is the sum of the numerators) = 63% on the side of the 5/8ths So the centering of that card would be 63/37 in that direction. |

Wow, I didn't realize PSA counted 70/30 as near mint. No wonder I see so many cards that seem way overgraded (as well as cards with bad, snowy surfaces that I wonder if they deteriorated inside the case).
