You hear a lot of discussion regarding the investing side of cards vs the collecting side. I thought this poll was a good way to see how most people enjoy this hobby. As for me, I fall in the both category.

Used to be 75% for fun, 25% “investor” when I was younger
Now it’s about 10% fun, 90% invest lol Never really “collected” anything

I "invest" in the hobby to pay for my collection. Its makes it really easy to buy a $400 card for your PC when you take a $600 case and turn it into a $1,400 case within a year.

I guess technically I both collect and flip. But I'm like 95% collect, 5% flip. Basically only collect unless I see a good deal I feel good about

I've had cards around me since i was 5-6 now at 54 can't stop, it's ingrained..... but i neither pc collect or invest for profit.... the stay at home order has made it fun to pass the time trading right now but once it passes i will not be as active. Then from the collecting side i have been trading to nicer and nicer cards but not of players i'm long term vested in......

My card fund my card buying. I don’t use my own money (meaning, money from my 9-5 job). I have a PC and I have cards I buy to flip and a separate account that I dump that money into to make more purchases.

I'm 99% collector.
There was a time in the past, 10-15 years ago, where I bought a few cards with the intent of trying to sell them for a profit, but I never did. |

Sounds like my behavior, too... I buy cards I feel confident will sell for as much or more than I paid for them (including fees, shipping, and taxes)... but I’ve sold maybe 0.1% of what I’ve purchased (and the sales were mostly because I wanted to prove to myself that I would do it + a few cards I did regret having as they just weren’t a core part of our collection approach) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’m 100% collector. My purchases are 75% retail and 25% ebay for higher end singles.

I say I am both, but it is very heavily weighted towards collecting. So maybe 80-20.
Investments are used to fund the collection so I never have to put money into the PC. Collecting PSA RCs, also means I will keep one in the PC and then the decision to sell the rest is easier when it’s profit. I’ll always have one copy. Too bad I just started my PC up again after selling everything about 3 months ago....gonna be a while until I can replace the Trout without spending any new money.

I'm 90% collector, 10% seller, and it's funny, b/c that's exactly what I tell folks when they come to my table for card shows. it's a hoot to set up and not care if you sell a whole lot of cards. I bring the whole collection in about 4 shoeboxes. of course 50% of my collection is mantle and banks, 90% graded, so, it's pretty easy and fun to set up. no semi-stars, and no sets, no commons, no dollar boxes, etc. that's how I roll. |

I like to prospect young major leaguers, flipping cards for fun.

I'm primarily a collector. The only cards I will sell are cards I have more than 1 of so 1 can always stay in my collection.
