Do you have experience submitting 2019 Bowman Draft Sapphire cards for grading that you are willing to discuss? I ask for two reasons.
First, I started to review my 2019 Bowman Sapphire cards to decide what to grade (eventually), and noticed that almost all of them have a ton of barely visible print lines on the back. I see the lines only under strong light at certain angles and they are not visible to the naked eye. (By contrast, there are no such lines on 2019 Topps Chrome Sapphire cards in my collection.) I'm wondering whether those lines will meaningfully affect grading. My hope is that they should not because virtually every card has those lines, which to me means we shouldn't ding the cards for a systemic issue. Second, I see rather low population reports from PSA and BGS - as of this writing, 190 on PSA and 230 on BGS. I'm wondering whether that is a result of collectors seeing similar signs of manufacturing issues in their 2019 Bowman Sapphire collection that lead them to refrain from grading. The low pop reports could also result from a combination of (1) the fact that the product didn't really explode in popularity until around Feb/March of this year, (2) generally slow turnaround times, and (3) the recent shutdown. Would love to hear the community's thoughts on what I view as a complex issue. Thanks. |

Centering is TRASH. Sometimes those lines on the back are missed, but centering, mostly top to bottom, is as bad as anything I've seen from a release. If the top of your card is one of those white lines in the design, your card should not gem.

Not sure about the other cards, but A LOT of Vlad RCs have a stress mark on the back that prevents a gem grade.

Are you referring to Topps Sapphire?

I have 5-6 PSA 10s of the top guys from the stuff I graded. Most graded pretty well overall

@rutgersjpm whoa that's a great rule of thumb, I can't believe I missed such a dramatic top-to-bottom centering issue on some of these cards
@kyle121592 do you recall if those cards had the hard-to-see lines on their backs? every single one of mine has them so I'd like to believe the graders can't ding the cards for them |

Yeah, once you have that line guide it makes centering issues much more apparent. I think.some of the stuff will still sneak through, but I'm not risking it with anyone beyond the top 8 or so names.
