Default The Topps 2020 XFL Cards Look Horrible

The design is... bad. All of the cluttered, washed-out, angular use of the front layout is as bad as I've ever seen for a Topps product. On top of that, the photos show players standing around in their practice uniforms. Even back in the 1950s, Topps photographers would take pics of players wearing their Sunday best.

These cards are not pleasant to look at whatsoever.

The design looks better than 2015 Topps, so on par there but still not the greatest. The biggest thing for me is the photography...yep, let's just buy a few photos from the local news paper. Bleh

I am in total agreement with you.
They are hideous- especially all the crappy practice photos. They are slightly less hideous when the players are posed in front of the logo backdrop.

But yeah they are really lame. Topps probably should just release them as cheap factory sets at this point. Most of the cases will never see the light of day.

Looks like another insurance write-off for Topps, even moreso than their AAF attempt last year.

I agree with all of this. I know we both bought more than our share of Topps AAF cards last year, and I was hoping the XFL set would be at least as nice. I will wait for prices to cool off on this product before I jump in.

It just sucks when you know Topps could have done better.

For sure! I was going broke though, spending way too much $$$ on the XFL Topps Now cards!

Seriously, are they going to make any money off this product? If they were going to be half-ass to begin with, then why bother?

They could've just focused on a more interesting Topps Now set, and then maybe released some parallel/variation of those to the retail market afterward.

Topps offers 1/1 blank-back versions of base cards for some new releases. That's probably where these specific photos come from.

They remind me of Topps Now cards.

Yes, these are currently being auctioned by The Topps Vault on eBay. It's interesting that they are auctioning these 1 of 1 cards off before the regular set is available! Thirty are up right now.

Panini uses training camp photos all the time. And just recycles the same picture for veterans for 5+ years. Rarely hear that complained about.

They left the release too late. Should have been out a few weeks before the shut down. Would have sold through an ok amount. Delays on this has killed it.

I was unaware of XFL Topps Now cards. I am interested in buying some cards from the games on February 15th (if I'm understanding how Topps Now cards work...). Is there somewhere I can purchase those?

You'll probably have to buy them on eBay now. Topps only sells Topps Now cards on the their site for a limited time.

Looks like there are two cards from that day... both featuring DC Defenders players. QB Cardale Jones has a print run of 258, and can still be found on eBay for less than the $9.99 issue price. LB Jameer Thurman has a print run of 182, and is currently listed by just one seller on eBay. I think a little patience will allow you to pay less than the $40 the current seller is asking.

Okay cool, that’s what I thought I was seeing in the Topps Now history page, but wasn’t sure if I was missing something. I was really hoping for Deandre Thompkins or Keenan Reynolds, because those guys made me a lot of money that day and I wanted to commemorate it. But I will be happy to settle for Cardale. Thanks for the info!

Topps baseball is by far the worst.

I think I posted this rant somewhere around here already... but meh...

These ugly Topps 2020 XFL practice photo cards remind me of the similarly disappointing Topps 1985 USFL set.

And they both follow an attractive set from the previous year. In this XFL circumstance, I consider last year's 2019 Alliance of American Football set to be its superior related predecessor.
