That was a mistake. It was meant to say 3K. The sentiment is still the same, relatively speaking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Exactly, it's rare that any "event" comic that gets plenty of promotion gains value, and if it does, it's like 50-75 years down the road, i.e. Death of Superman. Back in 1988 or so, I paid $10 a copy for that "event" comic, and now I can flip them for $5-$10 bucks in NM condition. Just too many..
The books you want to look for are under printed, with over demand, as well as Key and potential keys from the Silver/Bronze/Copper age. 1st Appearance as always good from that time frame, even if the character isn't known yet, with how many properties are being optioned, it's only a matter of time usually before one will pop. 5 years ago Rocket Raccoon 1st comic appearance in Hulk #271 could be picked up out of back issue bins for $3 - Those are the types of books you want to look for. What are they now is probably your question. Well, I'll have to think about it as I've not done much in regards to hunting those down lately and am a little off my game dealing with grading/shipping/etc..

I agree with the others, while the series is getting good reviews, 3000 copies is about the norm for convention exclusives and nothing I think is worth picking up for long term potential, but mainly designed for collectors trying to get all the variants for their collections.

not only is the print run high but the cover art looks horrible. no way does this hold any value. online store exclusives often times have smaller print runs with much better covers and those cant even hold value.

"Holding Value" is a question of context.
I think the value is about $25, and any price tag higher is overpriced, even if it's sold by a store as their exclusive and they set their priced (at one point, sitting on 3,000 copies they probably paid $5-10 each for directly from Marvel, a retailer needs to liquidate product to turn dead inventory into cash, so prices can indeed drop as there's no rate integrity in sitting on boxes of unsold merchandise tying up money) So, I feel it is and would always hold around $25 from an investment standpoint. As a fan or collector, I'd not pay more than $50 for it, just based on the fact it's a pretty cover with no substance and in the world of limited editions, a 3,000 print run may sound small but it's not, for something so generic as just a variant cover (not a 1st app book). |
