Default Marvel Annual 2018/2019 on Pack Wars

Started today. Similar to last year, weekly achievement sketch cards and limited numbered character cards each week. Also you have the chance to hit a printing plate if you win a random game. I won this cool Iron Man plate within first 10 wins:

Here’s what this week’s numbered card... top 100 for the week get this... numbered to 100.

And here is what one of this week’s sketch cards look like... art by Erwin Ropa... top 5 this week get a random Ropa sketch.

The actual Pack Wars game is really lousy, but the prizes are cool!

You can also randomly hit sketch cards if you win a round this time. That wasn’t an option last year so UD has sweetened the pot a bit.

They suckered me in with the possibility of winning a sketch without having to do the achievement. I'll probably play enough every week to make the top 100.

I think it was smart of them to add the X/100 character card set. Often it seemed that people were scared away by the number of wins to get a prize, which limited overall sales. Adding a hit to the top 100 will at least awaken people’s ePack shill accounts to net multiple copies. Smart move by UD.

Unfortunately, it looks like a lot of the early printing plates in this set look faded... for example, can you make out this image?

This Cosmic Ghost Rider would be cool... if you could see his face

Well, if there's no black in his face then it won't show on the black plate.

Right... which is what makes it a bad version of the plate to hit.

This is kind of weird.

Picked up this plate:

Which if you look at the background appears to be the plate used for the color wheel version of the base card

Not the standard base version

So possibly 2 versions of each plate is possible... 8 total? What is weird is that I never saw any color wheel versions of the 2017 MA printing plates.

If you read the news section of upper deck, it even shows plates for the other versions.

This week’s X/100 achievement card is Amadeus Cho (odd choice)

Totally forgot when it ended, but thankfully was still in top 100, I love this idea.

I was just saying that it was a lousy hit because you can’t make out the image on the plate (which I described as faded). And you pretty much agreed because you state blue isn’t used much on the card which explains why there wouldn’t be much detail on the cyan plate.

There are a TON of cool plates with crisp images. This isn’t one of them.

Yeah... I think it’s fun they added an X/100 chase set to Pack Wars. It makes it accessible to people that don’t spend hundreds of dollars in a given week. Plus with sketch cards as hits, there is even a slight chance for someone to hit a sketch without dropping a ton of money on Pack Wars.

Got a cool Weapon H magenta plate in trade today...

And this week’s Pack Wars achievement is a little different. No sketch prize for the top 10, but the top 100 this week will get an X/100 foil numbered Miles Morales card (which is a really cool card!):

Any idea what the prices for plates will be? I hit two plates and Sketch. I really want to try to get some Deadpool printing plates but seems no one wants to trade for those. Kinda but a damper on my Deadpool collecting.

Ended up with a Glob printing plate, 0101 printing plate, and Iron Man sketch with disturbingly long fingers! Like those of a proctologist. I am in about $250 so with all the parallels I think I am about even. Was really hoping to trade for some Deadpool stuff but still figuring out ePacks page! My user name is StephanFloess if anyone wants to hit me up with Deadpool stuff for trade or sale!

Prices of plates, like sketches, are all across the board. For Marvel Annual, base plates are better hits than the Top 10 plates, but the base and SP roster of this year’s MA tends to have a higher percentage of obscure characters than the previous two Marvel Annual sets. Plates of lesser known or unknown characters probably won’t sell too well.

The weekly foil numbered X/100 Pack Wars achievement set keeps chugging along:

Week 4: Black Panther

Week 5: Old Man Hawkeye

Week 6 (current week): Voyager

Going a bit obscure again for this week’s Pack Wars foil numbered X/100 achievement awarded to top 100 players this week... Brother Voodoo

Top 5 win a Mitch Ballard sketch though this week... This Wolverine is one example..
