Default 1st Vintage Purchase - 1958 AS Mantle

First vintage purchase for me and very content. I had the other 3 and then I went for Mickey. Cards all look great next to each other.

I love this set, and it is one that is extremely undervalued IMO.

Nice cards KB.

Great card and welcome to the club! I have always like the balance that 50s 6-6.5 cards with excellent eye appeal have: not crazy expensive but look great for a 60 year old piece of cardboard! Vintage rules!

Well done sir.
Vintage should always be looked at as a "safer investment".
Notice I said "safer", not necessarily "safe".
Other than a couple of bubbles and bumps in the road, vintage high grade stars (let's go with PSA 7's and up) have steadily risen.
Mickey Mantle is one of the best/strongest "blue chip" type buys you can make in regards to vintage. (many guys are using that "blue chip" phrase now)

In the last few years, we are trending towards buy the card, not the holder thought train. Realistically, this may well be more and more important now with the gloom and doom coming out.
There are a lot of ways this can go from here, and I have one big theory as to what may happen long term, but for now the online community is paranoid about the trimming and doctoring.

As for that Mantle, I actually have 2, one is raw, and the better of my two is here.

Not a good picture, and I do not have a scanner......but you get the idea.

Thanks!

Good info. May I ask why the portions are blacked out?

I covered it on page 2 of my thread. ~~~~> https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1186757

If you want to read along, I cover a few vintage pickups, and why I chose them.
I later started a Mickey Mantle "display project", thats just about done. I set out to have something in my home, of relatively low cost but high eye appeal cards, so I could enjoy cards without leaving some more valuable cards around.
Needless to say, it started out as a low budget effort, but it has ended up being more than I wanted. But I don't regret it whatsoever. And its going to look damn good once I get it finished.
So if you like Mantle, you may want to check it out.

I answered fellow board member "smanzari" who essentially asked me the same question there in my thread.

I said
"Its something a number of people do, in an effort to protect their cards.
(from possible theft??)
Its not something I'm overly worried about, but then again I didn't think it would hurt anything either.
Probably unnecessary, I just got in the habit of doing it for the majority of my graded stuff. "

Welcome to the vintage side of the hobby, I think you will find it much more rewarding long term.

Yeah, the vintage train is a slow one for me.

I get to caught up on modern stuff.

Better a late Hank than a never Hank.

Thx!

Best centered copy I could find in my price range. Very happy with it as many PSA 4s have really horrible centering.

I agree. They are tough to find well centered. I’ve seen 5’s and 6’s not as centered as your 4.

I love the 58T All-Star Mantle.

Its amazing to me how many collectors and new Mantle buyers are drawn to that particular card.
Affordable and a great looking card if you find one that is visually appealing to your tastes.
Congrats.
