Default Which of the up and coming talents will be the best player in 5 years?

You only get to choose one. Who is going to be the best of the crop?

(I love these threads for future reference)

I went with Tatis. He just seems like he can do it all.

Best is so subjective. Hard for me to pick one.

Best hobby? Acuna.
Best all-around? Tatis.
Best hitter? Soto.

Man the disrespect for Gleyber Torres is real! lol
Dude is literally having the same stat wise season as acuna and he plays for the YANKEES and hes 22 years old.....
But then again over the years in this hobby i have always seen people be to late to the game on the future stars and just buy whos hot right now.
not saying the other guys are not hot or good but Torres and acuna should be topping this list equally. my opinion.

Why so much love for Soto still? He clearly isn't as good as Acuna and definitely npt on the same level as Devers. If Devers doesn't start put ice cold he would be the favorite for MVP right now....

Soto is 20, and ridiculously good at batting

Ronald Acuna - .290 avg - 25 HRs - 65 RBIs
Juan Soto - .289 avg - 20 HRs - 70 RBIs
Gleyber Torres .288 avg - 20HRs - 56 RBIs

Factor in the power house team that the yankees are where Torres is batting 6th-8th most of the time as well.
Also Acuna has 70 more at bats then torres since what i just mentioned above and acuna hits lead off.
If gleyber hat another 70 at bats this season already i can all but guarantee you that he would have about another 4-5 HRs and 10+ RBIs.

Its crazy how torres is not ranked higher.

Look at their ages, war, at bats, etc.
1. Acuna 2. Soto
...all things considered

I also like how it shows that Gleyber Torres is a 2X ALL STAR under that as well.... 2 seasons, 2 all stars.
Only Yankee to do it under the age of 23 since Mantle & Dimaggio.

Have to go with Tatis. Very strong hitter and plays one of the hardest defensive positions. Soto seems to be about the same in terms of hitting, plays one of the easiest positions, and is still a bad fielder.

Yes, probably bad wording on my part. Perhaps who would be the most accomplished within that time frame. Most all star appearances, awards, WAR..mvp rankings, consistency...and fan/hobby sentiment. Usually those are all pretty consistent with each other and form a good picture.

I guess the real question would be: if you're a manager, who are you choosing to be the cornerstone of your franchise for the next 5 years?

Great takes so far. There were a few names I probably forgot (like Verdugo), but I tried to keep them around 22 or under. Will be interesting to revisit this thread in a few years to see how things progressed!

.290/25/65/25
.287/20/56/4

Those two years are not close. Plus the better player is a year younger.

This is the thing that leads me to Soto. He's tight in talent/production with Acuna but is a year younger. That is huge. Soto is on more of an HOF track because of that.

Devers is my argument. Only 22 and 5 years younger than Betts. I haven't seen a Red Sox hitter like this since David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. The ball explodes off his bat.
Devers is the real deal. Having a better year than JD Martinez and about almost 10 years younger.
