I'm looking to invest in a few specific young players. My question is, for collectors, if I wanted to bulk up on a few cards, is the silver prizm the way to go? Or maybe some rarer prizm cards? Or maybe contenders autos? Thanks for the help!

Silver Prizm and maybe a Blue or Purple Cracked Ice (both are numbered), National Treasures RPA, and Next Day Auto (I think it's from Donruss) would be a few good ones. There are plenty of other options too, but those are definitely a few key pieces.

Below is what I would aim for if you are looking at an investment point of view.
Prizm or Optic for their BASE NON-AUTO RC investments Auto RCs (in the following order..just my opinion): National Treasures Next Day Contenders Immaculate Flawless Everything else that are RC autos would be just icing on the cake. |

If its a lower end player I say go for cracked ice, blue being my fav. They tend to dry up faster and them being limited to 99 will save you once/if the Silver obsession dies down. In my personal opinion, they just aren't as limited as they once were and that kills the fun out of it. You can buy a Donovan Mitchell Silver or Jayson Tatum Silver no problem right now, they're always up for sale, same with Luka and Trae Young.
If you're buying a high end player then I'd go with Silver, you'll likely flip those much sooner so you won't have to worry about sitting on them for too long.\ 2015 and under, Silver is fine. 2016 and above, Cracked Ice. |

The longer it takes people to figure out, the more I can accumulate on the cheap. This was a thread about "bulking up" on cards of certain players. If you can get the long-term winner at a discount to today's flavor of the month, then you could buy more within your budget constraints. So that's my advice, people are free to take it or leave it. |

Depends on what you consider "investing". Is it short or long term? Short term, Prizm silver rc's can be a good money maker throughout the season. Long term, I think quantity is going to hurt you outside of short print years like 12-13. This last season there was 5,000+ silver prizms produced. Unless you're buying a guy who turns into a generational player, long term ROI probably isn't there on silvers anymore. Best to go with tried and true actual short print parallels like mojo /25 or gold /10.
I don't invest in cards myself, but if I did I would be buying guys I actually like and follow. The closer you can follow a player the more prepared you'll be when it's time to move their stuff. Last edited by mindcycle; 07-16-2019 at 04:41 PM. |

Last years rookie class (Luka, Trae, Ayton, Jaren Jackson, etc, etc) was much stronger in my opinion than the 2017-18 season (Tatum, Ball, Kuzma)? Maybe it has to do with the supply and demand as I haven't seen any 2018-19 basketball at Target or Walmart left over...

I also am a big fan of Optic holo's. Both autos and non autos. Last year Optic was great. Just so you know last year there were roughly 1000 optic holo's (600 hobby and 400 retail) and 5000 prizm silvers. And the good part about the Optic autos is they're on card. Why are they so undervalued? Your guess is as good as mine.
