I just did a bigger deal. At no point was "Family & Friends option" mentioned, so I did a regular credit card payment. The seller is surprised. To clarify if you do a "Family & Friends" transfer, you have zero recourse if the package doesn't arrive. Correct? Do buyers actually do deals over $1K, heck even $500 as a family and friends option, and cross their fingers? I wasn't about to do it. I'd be curious with people's experience doing this.

Never do F and F. Only way I would is if I am physically getting the item in person, in which case you could do it then (but cash would be the option there Id think).

Unless it’s someone you know and trust, never send as family/friends. You are correct you have zero recourse if something happens. Always use goods/services.

And even then, don't send friends & family if you're not actually sending money to friends/family. Pay for the services used.

Exactly. No problem using family and friends with someone you have dealt with many times and know in person. But using FNF for anyone you don't know or haven't dealt with is a recipe for disaster

I never do F&F on any deal. I was burned on a deal with a guy I traded with many times when a package was lost in mail. He received my money but my card got lost in a hub and he decided he wasn't liable at all.
Its worth the extra fees for my peace of mind. |

I will only use F&F if buying a card or pick in a group break. In this situation the seller is not the one shipping the card and fees have already been paid once for the spot so no need to give PayPal more $$.

This happened to me a couple of months ago. I had a chance to buy a large amount of Blue Jays memorabilia, autographs, cards, plus some other stuff. Seller insisted on me paying friends and family. I walked away. I'm not putting thousands of dollars on the line just because you don't want to pay 3% or because one person charged back on you 5 years ago.

I've also heard if you use F&F too much and they perceive you're just skirting the fees they'll suspend your account. No idea if this is really true.
