2019-20 Topps Chrome Basketball? What?

Photo being circulated of Kentucky guard Tyler Herro signing stacks of autographs on cards clearly displaying the Topps Chrome logo.

They appear air brushed, and without logos.

Anybody know what is up with this?

Baseball insert set like Ginter?
Actual product?
Elaborate photoshop prank?

Side note: Possibility of Zion Topps Chrome On-Card Rookie Auto (Gold Refractor?). Discuss.

I had read at one point Panini wanted to license and produce Topps Chrome itself. But if that were the case, the cards would have team names and logos.

I had read at one point Panini wanted to license and produce Topps Chrome itself. But if that were the case, the cards would have team names and logos.

My guess is that it's A&G, they had Sexton autos and someone else I believe from last years stuff.

Gonna go on a limb and say it’s just a money grab cause Zion is coming out. Could be wrong but why do it now.... maybe because the most hyped basketball player in 20 years is coming out???

Unlike the A&G framed autos, I would imagine that these would be quite popular assuming they manage to get some of the bigger names.

Could you imagine a Zion Topps Chrome Gold Refractor Auto? I don't care if it's airbrushed, that would be one of the biggest cards of the year.

I believe 2009 was airbrushed, at least the key rookies...so yeah, I dont see a difference. These would be big.

It's something new and not Panini. It might be an interesting product it Topps will produce it or it would still be interesting even if it's just an addition to A&G.

I would assume that it would be in Topps Chrome, not A&G. Some of the NBA picks have appeared in the A&G framed autograph set over the past couple of years so the Q was whether this is a standalone product or a gimmick insert.

This would be Panini baseball Prizm if its an actual full set; my guess is this is still the Allen & Ginter basketball autos for the year. They just decided to go the Topps Chrome route because of how popular the brand is, rather than the crappy looking cards they had last year.

What's the logo on the top left of the card? Looks like a G to me which might be Ginter but not sure, just noticing small things on it.

People keep bringing up the baseball thing.

Topps has always been the dominant baseball company. Donruss was a smaller competitor who ended up getting in financial trouble (and bought by Panini). Baseball people have their gripes with Topps, but they do not hate them the way basketball people HATE Panini. To us, they're a usurper who kicked out the favored brands of UD & Topps.

A lot of people are going to want this, assuming that Zion/Morant are in there. If they are not, it will be a waste. In the past Topps only got one or two of the rookies to throw in as gimmicks. Last year Bagley for instance.

I agree with this. I get the interest in Topps or another viable competitor to Panini. I the cards posted are ugly, plain and amateur.

The excitement these cards are producing on the internet is more proof that these companies can push out crap and people will still rush out to spend their money on it.

This is excellent. Your post history is filled with threads you have created sharing NT cases you've busted, White Sparkle & Kaboom! promotional packs you purchased, Optic Choice box busting, several FOTL busting threads, and all kinds of Prizm purchases. That was just what I saw in a 10 second scan. If that is what you do for a company that sucks I'd love to see what kind of investment you'd make in a bunch of airbrushed Topps cards.
