Default Call Out Thread: phdbeckett

This dude broke the collector code. Phd - you sold your integrity for a few hundred bucks. Congrats dude.

I bought this card today - 2013-14 Giannis Panini "Red Knight." I saw it listed, bought it, and paid for it. I don't know the value because it is unnumbered but I know PhdBeckett once said they were rare and I liked it. Several hours later I get a message from the seller who says, sorry, he has to refund me because "Beckett themselves contacted me and says it's worth 5x what you paid."

Immediately I knew what happened as Beckett would never do that. I asked the guy if if was phdbeckett, and he said yes. He said phdbeckett told him it was worth 5x what he paid and that he himself had bought one for $750. The seller was surprised to hear that it wasn't Beckett the company, but an individual.

So now I get no card. You broke the rule. You ruined someone else's deal. I hope it was worth it.

And yes, I have screenshots of everything, but there's not even need to show them because he cannot dispute it.

Why is there no need to show the screen shots?

He was probably not happy that a card he owned was being sold for much less since he paid way more, etc. But to be fair, all he did was tell the seller more information. The seller was the one who made the final call.

I will if I have to (I don't really know how, but will figure it out), but he knows this is true. If he disputes it, I will show screenshots. If he doesn't show up in this thread, you all know the truth.

I've sold cards and then had offers for hundreds of dollars more than I sold them for.... you still ship the card.

While I understand what the OP is doing here (especially because PHDBeckett is a member here), the final and more egregious mistake is on the seller. No integrity.

Edit. Replaced "seller" with OP in last sentence.

That really sucks, sorry to hear that. I’ve made a few mistakes on eBay and here where I posted the wrong price and still honored the sale. You’d figure others would do the same...sucks

In the seller's defense, when a guy with a PhD from Beckett tells you what the value is, you listen. Lmao

Are they really worth $1650 or is that number just made up? What was the sale of the last one? Not that it really matters just kind of curious.

While I would never do that, the fault lies with the seller. Deal is a deal. That’s who should shoulder the blame.

For what? Whatever it is, I can't be worse than you for jumping to stupid conclusions and making blind accusations. Re-read carefully what I wrote if you still don't get what I'm saying.

All I said and still do believe is that the seller is the one who made the final call regardless of what phdbeckett told them. If Phdbeckett just said something like "Hey man, just a heads up btw, you sold that card for way less than what it's worth." Does that merit a call-out thread like this?

Would I do what phdbeckett or the seller did? No. If I sell a card, I would ship it because I don't want to risk a negative or my reputation for a deal. And I wouldn't message the seller to convince him to cancel a deal. That's none of my business, and if a seller lost out on money, that's on them. For the record, recently sold a Kyrie Blue Roll Call BGS 9.5/10 for $90 and then a different one on eBay sold for over $200. Did I cancel the sale? Absolutely not. Did I ever message sellers convincing them to cancel sales? Absolutely not.

OP, just ask phdbeckett and contact them first to see what exactly he told the seller at least instead of calling them out like this first. And shouldn't you call out the seller first since you already know what he did for sure, but you don't know for sure what phdbeckett did?

All the guys claiming the fault lies on the seller for renegging and not the person who instigated it are all wrong.

Thats like saying an auction ends on ebay for $100. I email the seller and offer $300 and he cancels the winning bid. Then someone tells you its not my fault but the selller. I didnt do anything wrong by offering more for a auction that was won by another person? Is that what you guys are saying?

Gottim.

Wonder if he's involved in any Giannis pumping shennanigans as well.

Or maybe he's just a nice guy and this is one big misunderstanding. Language barrier.
