Default 86 Fleer Jordan Help

I was hoping those of you with more experience grading vintage and grading PSA would give me an idea of what to expect on this card. I’ve almost exclusively used BGS and graded modern, so while I have a rough idea as to what to generally expect from PSA, I’m not very confident in my own eye unless there’s very little to no blemish.

I know centering is off a touch, there’s some where on the left edge, and the big knock would come from the smudge on the back. Overall the card is pretty sharp in hand but those are noticeable flaws. Would I be looking at a 3-4 considering the smudge?

Thanks

Hard to tell. Is it in a one touch? I feel like I’m see scratches on the one touch?

Yes unfortunately. It's my brother-in-law's card and haven't been able to get it out of the one-touch for him yet. He stopped collecting years ago but has some of his older stuff including this. The scratches are on the case though from best I can tell. I'm having him bring it to the house tonight so I'll be able to get it out of the case and get a better picture.

Are you sure it's real? The filled in NBA basketball logo on the back looks fishy--could be the camera. Assuming it's real, I think the smudge is a knock, but could also just as easily be a (ST) stain qualifier with PSA. I'd say a 7(ST) or a straight up 5-6 assuming the scratching is on the case and there aren't any hidden surface wrinkles. For BGS, I'd say 7.5/8 centering, 7.5 corners, 6.5 edges, and 5 surface--good for a 5.5-6 overall. Hard to tell without it in hand, but just my .02 from the pics.

Sorry to say, it's a fake. Picture of Jordan is a dead giveaway in that it is so grainy.

I'm not following I guess. In what way does it look fishy.

Well that would be disappointing. He bought in 1993 so I guess plenty of time for people to start with fakes. I wouldn't have thought there would be a lot of fakes floating around at that point. I'm certainly no expert on 86 Jordans though. I'll take it out of the case tonight and see what it looks like then.

Yeah, I wasn't sure it was just poor picture quality but something looks off about the card. I do think it's a grainy front image, but to me, the back was the giveaway as the NBA logo inside the basketball (lower right) should not be completely filled in. You should clearly see the lines of the basketball. Having that blue circle filled in is a sign of a fake. Again...not saying for sure it's a fake because digital pictures lie, but judging by the photos posted, I would say it appears to be a reprint of sorts.

Looks 100% fake. Back is no good. No decimal pt on the 27.2, the logoman is not crisp, the NBA logo is a blob, and some of the other print is not clear, it looks choppy. Also the black outline around the yellow on the front does not look solid.

get some pictures out of the holder. here are two things that jump out, but very hard to tell from these pics.

1 - Another color element to look for is the arrow in the Fleer logo crown. The real version features a darker yellow/gold and is clearly a different color than the yellow text box. Many fakes will include the same color yellow in both the arrow and text box

2 - the clarity of decimals in the stats, specifically the one in "27.2" average points. The decimal will be clear to the naked eye on the real version and nearly nonexistent on many of the fakes.

This is one of the oldest fakes out there. it doesn't have the different colored flag in the fleer logo on the front. Pic of MJ is so grainy as mentioned, reverse is missing the period in the "27 2" scoring average and overall the colors and print are just off and shoddy looking. Just do a quick search of a BGS SGC or PSA graded MJ RC on eBay and you can easily see the differences...looks like Glen87 just articulated these as well as I was replying..

I'll look at it out of the holder tonight. I did a little cross referencing from some PSA slabs on the logo and the front of the image of the card. Couldn't really tell much on the NBA logo from the authenticated cards; They looked blurred or colored in by most of those pictures. I'll look closer tonight though. I Really hate that it for him that it appears to be a fake. Fortunately he bought it 15 years ago and for a lot less than he'd have to now.

The didn't look that sharp in the case. Looked like the coloring was faded some so to speak, but I just assumed that could have been because of age.

I appreciate the responses and I'll try to get some more pictures of the raw card on here later.

So fake, not even close to the real thing. Print quality is terrible and the Bulls logo should not have any breaks in it. Sorry...

So I was able to look at it outside of the case and as most of you have pointed out, it's definitely fake. No two color premier flag, breaks in the black border, and the NBA logo had no lines. Didn't even cross my mind originally because he had bought it so long ago and because I've never really dealt with any 86 Fleer. Hate it for him.

I appreciate all of the responses and the help! Glad I didn't send it off for him before posting on here.
