Default 1985-86 Star NBA cards that never were

Several key HOF rookies were left out of the 1985-86 Star NBA basketball sets, and ended up having rookie cards in the 1986-87 Fleer set. I've always wondered what those cards, had they existed, would have looked like. I decided to get on MS Paint and make my own. Tell me what you think.

You failed. Those cards are way too nice looking to be in the Star set

Nice Mullin with the hair, short shorts and about to school James Worthy!

I love your mock ups. I have always wondered what happened with the Dumars, Malone and Mullin cards from that set and why they weren’t included. Mullin was a huge star at St. John’s and drafted number 7 overall and Dumars and Malone were first rounders too.

Nice work! Man, I wish those were real. I love the Star sets from 83-86.

Haha, sadly probably true. They would have picked far more awkward photos.

All I can figure is that they couldn't get the rights to those players for whatever reason.

I love the Star cards and am extremely grateful that they exist. Can you imagine all those years had there been nothing while some of the greatest players ever came on board? They filled an extremely important void.

These are fantastic! Can you do possibly an 87 Fleer Dennis Rodman, or 88 Mitch Richmond?

The Rodman I'll take a stab at (he played in 86 and could have had a 87 card), but why an 88 Richmond? He wasn't a rookie in '87. Obviously these are just fantasies, but there never could have been a 88 Richmond.

The Star cards from 83 to 85 put out cards for players DURING their rookie years, which is pretty remarkable. That's why when you look at the backs it shows their college stats - they didn't even have complete rookie years yet. When Fleer took over, they went to the standard practice of putting out a card after the rookie year was in the books.

Saying that, I could make an 88 Richmond just for the hell of it.

Default 1985-86 Star NBA cards that never were

Always wanted to see a 89-90 David Robinson Fleer or a 89-90 Hoops series 2 Shawn Kemp. In baseball a 1990 UD update Frank Thomas would have been smooth. Len Bias Fleer issue from I guess 87-88 would have been amazing. Last one 1994 Bowman Football Packers Kurt Warner. He was in camp and a lot of guys that only went to camp had cards in larger sets. Brunel had a 93 SP. This is fun

Working on some others, but would love to get some more requests. Even some classic existing cards you’d like to see with a better photo.

That robinson fleer rc.is awesome! Always wondered how one would look if Fleer made one. Would probably be harder to find than Hoops rc too.
