Default Making an offer instead of hitting the BIN

I'm so annoyed at myself.

A card I really wanted popped up this morning on the bay. The BIN price was fair and I totally would have paid it, but they also accepted best offer... being the cheap bastard that I am, I offered $25 below BIN price. Might as well save a few bucks right...

Wrong... Someone else swooped in an hit the BIN not 30 seconds later... I hate when I do this... It's like I am physically not capable of hitting the BIN if there's a best offer option.

Anyone else done this?

plenty of times. and I always say the same thing after.
"quit being so cheap and hit the bin"
but do I? not always.
I commiserate with you

All the time. It’s okay though. The consistently cheap bastard always wins.
Also - filling your cart w cheap BINs on coupon day and waiting all day to pay only to discover that half the cards in your cart have been bought by others earlier in the day while I was still filling my cart like a greedy piggy.

Happens often. You'll remember the pain so that next time you hit the BIN and cause that feeling for some other poor soul.

I learned my lesson one too many times and lost a couple of cards I really wanted. If the price is fair, take it.

Similar issue on COMC. You see a card priced at a good deal, so you send an offer and they realize they are too low and raise price.

Haha, I always just send an offer I think I might fall into an auto-accept range (rapid fire if at first it doesn’t) and if those don’t take I just buy it.

This is me exactly.

Agreed. I'm way more ahead than I am behind. Instead of lamenting all of the cards I lost out on by making offers, I choose to look at how awesome my collection is and realize that most of it was purchased under market value.

There are millions and millions of cards out there and there is always something that will pop up that 'I have to have', that causes very little lost sleep when I lose out on something. This didn't hold true when super collecting a single player though and it is the main reason I stopped doing so. Many times there was one chance and only one chance to grab a card, it is a stress that I don't miss.

Depends on the card and price level.

I rarely hit the BIN on cards over $25, because above that level I can often save substantial $$$ by negotiating via Best Offers instead.

It also depends on the card in question....I generally collect items which are not particularly hot/popular, so sellers have much more incentive to negotiate with me and accept an offer of 50-75% of their BIN because my offer may be the only one they've gotten in quite a while.

This has happened to me way too many times in the past. Now, if it’s a rare card I’ve been waiting to pop on eBay and it’s in my price range I’m willing to spend, I hit the BIN button. Losing a rare card for a price you know you would of paid for hurts too much. I know the feeling.

It is weird and has happened to me. If they didn’t have the BO I would just hit BIN. It’s just too tempting to make an offer.

Negotiating for a card today.

Offer 275 (very fair)

Seller counters 325 (high)

I want the card so Im willing to pay a little extra and offer 300.

Seller counters 375 with message "this is the lowest I can go"

.... what?

Or when a $500 card goes for $300 and you forget to set your snipe while at work.

I’ve learned this lesson as well. Last week I bought five cards from the same dealer when he listed BIN with best offer. I just hit the BIN and celebrated.

This has happened to me once. When the seller started going higher, I knew our negotiation was dead on his side because I’m sure he got offended with my offer (even though I thought it was a reasonable offer). At that point, I walked away.

What I hate is when bidding on items and loosing to one person for a freaking dollar. I don't mind being blowout out by a few bidders its the one person beats me with a single small bid. This has happened way to much to me lately. Yesterday I saw a card pop on ebay I wanted. I immediately messaged the seller and asked if he had a BIN he would accept. He replied almost instantly with a price. While I may have gotten it cheaper at auction. Screw it I said set the BIN and bought it 2 minutes later.

In ebay auctions, when you mention losing to one person by a dollar or ten dollars (depending on the auction price), you might never know what the winning bidders max bid was especially when they place a bid in the last few seconds. We only see the next bid increment which is the winning bid.

Sometimes I'm afraid if I hit the BIN too quickly that the seller will think they sold it too low and cancel my order. When they offer a BIN a lot of times I'll offer something very close to their BIN, so that way the acceptance of the order will be on them. I usually nervously wait about 10 minutes to see if they accept my offer. If not, then I hit the BIN.

Funny, that happened to me very recently. I then proceeded to purchase the item at the higher price.

I have this happen to me a lot the last month and a half. I think four times.
You would think I would learn. The last one was the PSA 10 Topps Chrome
Sapphire Acuna yesterday. I said let me throw an offer as I leave work
and I will think about it since I work five-ten minutes from home. I get
home and check and it is gone. All for a few dollars. Ugh!

Yup! I've done it as well. The quote "Rejection breeds obsession" comes to mind. I've lost out on a few cards like that in the past over a few bucks, and then WHAMMO ... they are almost elevated to white whale status LOL. It stings!

I've also been on the other side of it, by being trigger happy and hit a BIN, when thinking ... crap ... could I have gotten that for half the price? Such is the "fun" of an open market.
