Default At the (almost) half way mark, who deserves MVP most?

Poll in a moment...

I agree it is Giannis but Harden is definitely making it closer than it was a couple weeks ago for sure.

I'd say Harden is pulling pretty even with Giannis. I'm rooting for Giannis though.

Harden: 33.6/5.9/8.6 29.05 PER
Giannis: 26.4/12.6/6.1 28.89 PER

I'd say Harden is ahead. Carrying his team minus the glue to the offense (cp3), and currently has his team 2 games out of 2nd place in the fluster cuck that is the West.

Yes, the Bucks are first. But I find it odd how the same argument people constantly used against Lebron suddenly vanishes as soon as Giannis is putting up gaudy stats in an even further weakened Eastern Conference.

I woulda picked Giannis until harden started going nuts and the rockets started winning. At this pace Harden has a strong case to repeat

Me too. This is why I waited until today to do the poll. Each year, I usually do the poll somewhere around games 30-40, but it's seemed like a run away for about the last month.

Last night, I think Harden made it a real conversation. It was a game that a lot of people were watching, where he was unbelieveable, on the heels of being unbelievable for a month.

I've despised Harden. His brand of basketball has never been interesting to me.... but he's grown on me. Why? I'm not sure. He's really different. His traveling and flopping still drive me crazy. But he's figured out a way to be an unstoppable offensive player that others cannot replicate.

I still would rather Giannis win it. I hate giving the MVP to an eastern conference player.... but man, that team is good. Also, 26.3 and 12.6 while shooting almost 60% from the field is just insane. 1.6 blocks and 1.3 steals? Seriously?

Wild.

As of today, I'll vote Giannis. But it's really close.

It would take a historic run for Harden to get it this season. Something like averaging 35/8/8 with the Rockets winning the West.

The award is Giannis’ to lose.

A) Using PER as the only advanced stat to compare Giannis (a DPOY candidate) and Harden (an average defensive player) is just wrong.

B) Milwaukee is still 5 games ahead of Houston. Whether one of them is X games ahead/behind someone else is irrelevant, their record should be the only important thing.

C) There are always gonna be people discrediting what LeBron does (and the other way around too). But Giannis is outperforming any of the LeBron seasons since he came back to Cleveland in a tougher EC.

I know, isn’t it amazing that the east is suddenly so much better and tougher with 4 contenders now that Lebron is out west.....

Record is irrelevant because of strength of schedule. Put Giannis in the West and watch personal stats and team record fall further behind Harden.

If this poll is any indication, it's not Giannis, but it's fairly close.

You do realize that the Bucks have a higher win percentage against the West than Houston does right?

The bucks haven’t dealt with any injuries as well.

There are metrics now that include SOS. And even with those, the Bucks are far ahead of the Rockets.

It will be interesting to see what happens when their first injury come. Specially if it's a guy like Middleton or Lopez.

Giannis. Nobody expected the Bucks to be this good this early in the season, and certainly not sniffing 1st place in the East.

To throw some panties in a bunch, I'll also add that Giannis doesn't get the "superstar treatment" from the refs (yet) like we all know Harden does

a) Yes, Giannis is a superior defensive player. I don't think anyone can debate that.

I also think it's very hard to debate or marginalize Harden's impact on his team's success this year. He's done so much in every statistical category that can't always be quantified.

Chris Paul out just magnifies his ability to single handedly lead the squad to wins.

b) Once again, a severely softened eastern conference. Celtics are not the celtics from last year. Outside of Philly and the Rap, it's a barren desert.

Bucks have played a total of 13 games against the west. They are 8-5 in that stretch.

Rockets have played a total of 25 inter conference games. They are 14-11 in that stretch.

Conversely, Rockets are 8-4 against the East.

I'm not in the least bit convinced this should be comparison of overall records at face value. Hasn't been before, and it shouldn't be now. East is still soft as a box of Charmin.

c) How is the east tougher, exactly? Would you say the east is tougher than the west? How would you quantify that? Star power? Straight up records?
I'd think very few people in this world would say the east is tougher than the west.

You're probably right about Giannis having a better season (so far, only half way in) than Lebron since returning to Cleveland. Strictly because he's a better defensive player. But I don't think Lebron cares much about personal stats at this point in his career, moreso about preserving his body for the postseason and Finals appearances.

The East is tougher than previous years? Give me strength.

I picked Giannis by a nose right now. But if Harden keeps it up he'll overtake him. He's literally got his team on his back every night vs tough competition.

Giannis has had some pretty quiet games and they've still won. Harden does not have that luxury.

Jokic deserves to be in the conversation also. Same with Kawhi and LeBron.
