Smile Does anyone else find the Markelle Fultz RC prices funny?

The last few days and weeks I have been laughing at some of the Markelle Fultz RC prices on eBay. Does anybody else find the prices a little bit funny? Sure, people can list their buy prices as high as they want, but sometime sellers just lose touch.

Note: I am not making light of the guy's physical ailments or any mental issues around those injuries.

Well, many bought at the "high" prices of the off season. So, rather than take a huge loss, they just list for whatever price they are "happy" to sell it for (with offers).

In this case, it's Sharon, so, she has so much inventory that she is in no rush to sell this at a loss.

That one keeps getting auto renewed. I think what is nuts are the sales. $625, $665, $900, $900, $876, $1652, $583, $543, & $700 for /99 RPAs over the past 2 weeks. I wouldn't pay $200 for them and even that is a stretch.

I don't know what the "high" price is for that card. Given his current state, that card could easily be valued at nothing in a few years. If you feel that Fultz is done and will be a bust, every month his cards are going to trend lower.

Happened with Anthony Bennett. Stuff was listed and is actually still listed at stupid prices. People are trying to recoup their money and other people are still buying hoping they're catching him low.

Keep in mind, a lot of sellers re-list unsold items without adjusting anything.

There are countless "future star" listings for guys that haven't seen the NBA or NFL in years...or even dead.

I haven't changed any of my Fultz prices. Part is I'm to lazy, part is I just dont think about it and part is I dont really care. I have no interest in rushing to sell to people hoping to scoop them up at depressed prices and if hes a bust and they become worthless, I dont care. If I happen to catch them during my tri-yearly update I might lower them.

Yes and no. He was the number one pick in a loaded draft, plays for a big market team, his team will make deep runs in the playoffs. He can’t ahoot but many investing believe once his injury is fixed, he will get back his shot. He knows how to play basketball so there is upside. I just don’t think his style of play and injury is worth risking at those prices.

I think some people just list, auto renew and forget about it until it sells. If people lower the price it's pretty much a self admission that they'll never get the price they intended to

Prices will rebound. He’ll look good after his rehab and people will buy in again. He may totally suck in the long run, but I don’t think the current prices are his forever peak.

Playing with Embiid and Simmons he's never going to be "the Guy" in Philly. Lot of talk of him being traded which I think could be a good move for him. A fresh start with a new team that didn't pick him number 1 overall. Less pressure.

Confused.... I didn't think Bennett was even playing anymore? Last I heard he was cut from the G League team he was with and couldn't even sign with a team overseas! I'm a Vegas local and was shocked when he was drafted 1st but it was a weak draft year to begin with

This.

The card in the OP is just part of the ever growing abyss on eBay. Plenty of listings on there by people who aren't serious about selling their cards (which that seller doesn't appear to be trying on quite a few of their listings).

Bennett is playing with the Agua Caliente Clippers in the G League. Actually playing decent, although i'm not sure he'll ever get another shot in the NBA. He apparently has a couple standing offers to play overseas but is trying for one last crack at the NBA.

It's not a complaint because I don't want to buy it. And it's not this one card, it's the vast majority of Fultz RC cards. To me, it's more of a commentary on how prices can go up really quickly on good news or "potential", but that it can sometimes take a long time for sellers to reduce their prices (sunk costs, large inventories, automatic renewals in place, indifference, or laziness). It takes a long time for people to give up on hype and potential. We like to think of eBay as real time pricing, but a lot of it is an abyss of laziness and indifference (bot re-listings). And that's not a judgment on the sellers - people are rarely in a rush to realize losses (unless it's for tax offset reasons).

PS - I clicked on your COMC account...and second listing was

2017-18 Panini Prizm - [Base] - White Sparkle Prizms #1
Markelle Fultz [BGS 9.5 GEM MINT]
$1,241.10
