Default new discovery? early '84 michael jordan card?

going thru the collection and found this interesting item.

dated feb 6th 1984 in a newspaper (not dayton) and cant seem to find another like it.

newspaper stock.

not foolish to think it's any holy grail, but could this be his first "card"?

would the general pop even consider this a "card" even though it's not?

(does say "-less card" bottom left hand corner)

any chance this should be sent in to psa?

it's the full strip, so basically a folded newspaper size.

should it be cut to be graded?

leave as is?

and zero clue on value.

Never seen this! That woman on the left was no common herself. I’d like to know what paper that’s from. Since MJ is a local to me.

It's worth something to any MJ collector for sure!

han soto, This MJ collector owns the same item and its listed on his site under 1984-85,send him an email and ask if he has anymore info on it,he's helped me once before with an MJ inquiry I had. He's also got a pretty sick Jordan collection. Good luck.

got a heads up from the other board that its from the witchita eagle commune.

small paper and only ran for three years and a blog, primarily for ripken, had the ‘85 checklist stated it was a very small paper and attempting to complete the set would be a monumental task.

i actually acquired a golf card collection and was going thru some of the boxes and stumbled upon it.

last and only reported sale i could come up with was $600 back in ‘96 to a jordan super collector with an angelfire site or something.

contacted psa and they will grade it which would require cutting the strip.

debating if that would be a good thing or not.

predates star and considering the feb 6th date, ‘83-‘84 season, its looking like it would be his first “card”.

obviously stirring a debate as to whether or not its a card. which isnt necessarily a bad thing either. or so mick jagger once said.

You obviously should send it to PSA. It would look better and create more interest in a PSA holder.

i agree, but if another one surfaced, got graded, did well at auction and then a full strip came up. similar to 93 sp sealed box vs pulling a jeter that comes back anything less than a 10 and most likely minsiz.

Slightly off topic, but would the 1981 Sports Illustrated featuring the 1981 McDonalds All American team (with Jordan, Ewing, etc) be considered Jordan's first 'mainstream' appearance in media? I would think some thing like this (if it is his first) would have more relevance for collectors given the desire to have things from early in his career. If you're not familiar, here is a link to an listing on eBay for the magazine. (BTW, not my listing).

Interesting, it would be in your best interest to determine what PSA considers the border. Based on the image, his head extends passed the top portion into what would be considered the border. However, the bottom has text that would show up if you cut both the same
