Default 1998 Ultra RC Platinum Surface Failing ?

Anyone else notice this?

98 RC Platinum owners, please take a look and let me know what you think

The bold color starts to get blotchy, almost like a water color painting

Edit: this also happens to the non-RC cards where the imagine that has the platinum coating starts to pixilate

Interesting. I’ll dig up my Pierce copy and see if I notice anything.

Here's a 3000dpi scan of my Vince Platinum RC:

No blotches, but the foil is starting to look like an old oil painting... It's not noticeable when I scan the card at lower resolutions though.

Here's what the card looks like normally:

Are Golds somehow unaffected?

Have a plat and some golds but none seem to be affected yet.

It is hard to say from the scan, because JPEG compresses the file, but if I look at the consistency of the red in the PSA holder and the purple on the card, there is definitely visible difference. One might say it is expected over time. Cards from the early 1900s all the way up to the 80s were not printed with the same technology as the more recent ones, so there are going to be issue with these cards from the digital age that we have never experienced before.
