I don’t know what is going on with Welker’s autograph but this sounds like some CardCop stuff.

I get it, but this is a lot of hub-bub over a $3 card.

Here are the facts... sometimes athletes don't like signing a million autograph cards and pass them off to friends/family to sign for them.

Its been happening forever.

It sucks, but its reality and will always happen.

If you suspect this is the case, and don't like the cards/autos... don't buy them.

I think topps figured this is a bad product so no one will care. Bold strategy

This just in, girlfriends/wives sign cards for their very busy playing boyfriend/husbands.

I'm so glad auto cards really aren't my thing......ish like this is going to make them worthless 20 years from now.

Yeah, all the ones signed by someone who isn't the player. Don't know why all autographs would be worthless?

Don't think they are good, but just saw a tweet from Topps about them.

"These cards were both signed Colton Welker, we have already confirmed it with his agent. They look different because he tried a different sig out (on the High Tek card), but went back to his original signature. Sorry for the confusion."

Topps has tweeted in response to this that they have confirmed with Weller's agent that he tried out a new signature style on some (most) of the cards before going back to the old style.
That seems rather odd.

I'll just root for him to fail, so none of the cards will be valuable and it won't matter much.

Could be true... Remember the Benintendi Topps now mess when he switched to his AB signature and people were freaking out about that one being fake as well? Then it turned out he used it for awhile and luckily went back to his normal sig

I'm not a big auto guy, but I can think of a couple players who have changed signatures. Not just devolving and simplifying from signing thousands of cards, but actual different signatures. It happens, but I imagine it's at least irritating.

I think the explanation from Topps is reasonable and its not a huge deal. A lot of Athletes change their signature. Bryce Harper was a good example, who has changed a few times i think.

Even if it was, like someone said it is a $3 auto. I might actually prefer to hit an auto from his girlfriend.

Edit: So after looking at the autos in question, i might have to eat the words from my first sentence. While i am not handwriting expert, i do not believe those signatures are from the same person.

I guess people don't remember Andruw Jones changing his signature nearly every year.

Yeah this is true, but usually on freebies/fanmail/etc. Players sign contracts with Topps guaranteeing they will sign these items personally, this would be breaching a contract, and a big deal.

I don't know this kid's autograph, but in theory he can just say he started off signing the base real neatly, and then quickly got tired of it and switched to his normal sig to fly through them. Topps will probably stick with that story regardless, and no one will ever know.

I would need to see plenty of examples of his handwriting over the years to form an opinion.

So he decides to change his signature on the base cards (3000) with a more pronounced writing that takes longer to sign. The way he signed the parrells looks like a much quicker signing style.

Does not add up.
