Default Essential credentials

Essentials credential cards have increased a ton in value, even the high numbered.
They are sure a thing of beauty.

But i wonder... were are those low numbered essential credentials??. (besides the fake TMAC sold for 3.2k)

Was doing a little research and found only 20 essentials credentials numbered /10 or less from the 1997-98 alone. (A lot more from other years)

1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #80 Ron Mercer/1
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Now #1 Grant Hill/1
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #79 Tracy McGrady/2
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Now #2 Kevin Garnett/2
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #78 Tony Battie/3

1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #77 Tim Thomas/4
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Now #4 Anfernee Hardaway/4
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #76 Danny Fortson/5
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Now #5 Dennis Rodman/5
1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #75 Tim Duncan/6

1997-98 E-X2001 Essential Credentials Future #71 Chauncey Billups/10

Good luck. Those are hard to come by. Those are the type to get buried in a collection and never see daylight. I would love to see them as well.

I know the whereabouts of a KVH /7, but I'll let the collector share it.

Here's a random one for you.

Chris Anstey /13, unfortunately I don't have that one anymore (the one in the middle). I'll probably regret it someday when a set collector is paying $1k to for this obscure card.

I had to sell a bunch of stuff due to a few family things going on, sigh. Beautiful set and I still have the one on the left and right.

Pretty sure the Ron Mercer 1/1 was listed and quickly bought about 4 years ago, went for 15k bin if my memory serves me right. That being said it's thought that the grant hill has never been seen. If that's still in packs itd be super tempting...thats a pull and a pwcc if I ever saw one

That Ron Mercer is the jewel in the crown for any Mercer fan. I still remember the Beckett article back in the day of the kid in Washington that pulled the card. Magical.

My rarest credential is from 1999-00 (when the Credentials started to lose some luster). Won it in an auction dirt cheap in 2004. I remember when Burbank was selling 1/2 for $495 back in the day. I was tempted lol

Default Essential credentials

Credentials has always been one of my favorite cards of all time. They are truly a thing of beauty. Only have one basketball credential.

ozantoine, you need to post more. Lol.

That Big Dog Future is gorgeous, love how perfectly the Bucks away jersey goes with it.

Same can be said for that Jordan Future, wow.

I've always loved these sets ,but were a bit confusing. Been looking to maybe start PCing them. Are there fakes out there to look for? This the real deal?

Why were these so popular? Just seem like parallels nowadays except some were really low #'d or 1/1. What's with the "now" and "future" of it since they both have same picture. Are they made using different technology or materials? Was the numbering just random for each player and year?

It reversed the card numbering in each. Set card #1 was numbered out of 1 in one set and out of 100 (or whatever) in the other set. 2 was out of 2 and then out of 98 (or 99, not sure on the last card number) and so on.

I have a Dirk from the mid 2000s.

Crash numbering at it's best. I have some in my PC and I hope to add more. I have both LeBron's now and future of second-year however those pale in comparison to any other year e x credentials, even 2000-2001 season. My favorite is the Kobe 1998-99.

These cards are gorgeous in hand and one of the more rare sets/parallels of the 90's. If you want to see what's special about them wait till the next time a Jordan or Kobe comes up for auction.

i love credentials too, although my PC player wasnt included in 97-98 because of some incident of which i cannot get my hands around.. He was back in 98-99 with a bang and had a high and very low numbered credential.
the on on the left is to /83 and the right one to just /8, his jersey!

Thanks. Was the initial numbering as far as who was 1,2,3 etc in first set random or was there some reasoning behind the decision?

All you'll need is a large bankroll and a lot of patience. There may be some fakes, but I believe the main thing to watch for is the serial numbering. Some of them surfaced unnumbered after the Fleer bankruptcy, and then someone stamped them later on. Keep an eye on the size and font of the numbering.
