Witnessed a number of inferior caliber players (Gary Sanchez, Judge, Acuna) get their own threads. Felt utterly compelled as a true baseball fan to start a player thread for Nolan Arenado, regarded by the majority as the best 3B alive. Fantasy projections tell me to pick this dude right after Mike Trout. I believe he will win the NL MVP award he deserved last year, this year, at age 27. He's finished 8/5/4 the last 3. Won't even mention he has won a Gold Glove every year since he put on a Rockies uniform (5 straight) which leads to the logical conclusion he is on pace to win the GG every year he plays which would make him the best defensive player of ALL-TIME at any position. All the inscrutable stat projections has Arenado has him as one of a few hall of famers from this generation.
Show off your Arenado's and throw them in the faces of the haters that think Arenado is a Coors product: His last 162 games on the road : .280-34-102 Paul Goldschmidt: .285-25-104 It's a push between Arenado and Goldy who no self-respecting baseball fan would insult by labeling him anything other than a top 5 player in all the sport. psa sub #2 by Jay Cooper, on Flickr

One of the very few non D-Backs players I really enjoy watching (except when he's playing the D-Backs!) Have a few update and heritage RC.

my collection doesn't center around him, especially since I'm a yankees fan. however I've made it a point to diversify my collection to include a bunch of his cards with the hopes they only go up in value over time. by the way, clocsta2323, that collection is awesome!

Nolan can definitely play. I just had a sub go to PSA that had 6-7 Base 2013 Updates, an emerald and a 13 Chrome Draft Black Refractor /35. I will be happy to tuck them away with my Trout graded cards once they are back.

thanks! I got a deal for the blue and gold together from an ebay seller. he had both for sale and was able to work on a combined deal for the pair. very condition sensitive. oh and the chrome update I got on ebay as a best offer. there were two auctions ending in a few days besides it. bit the bullet and purchased it without waiting on the auctions. well, they ended up finishing for $30 over what I paid for mine. with a pop of only 25 PSA 10's, they don't seem to come up often.

Hope Arenado has a huge season and finally comes out of the shadow he plays in. I know everyone here on BO knows of his greatness but the casual fan who doesn't collect cards have no clue who he is

He won’t ever get the respect, accolades, and hardware many of you feel he deserves unless the Rockies somehow win a Workd Series (unlikely to happen anytime soon) or he goes and plays elsewhere and puts up similar numbers without the Moon atmosphere. Whether or not you think the “Coors effect” thing is real in terms of the laws of physics as they apply to baseball, it’s very real in the minds of many fans, media members, etc.
He’s a great player and deserves more respect, to be sure. Is he undeniably better than anyone but Trout, as the OP comes close to suggesting? I personally don’t think so. But if he wins an MVP in the next couple years, I also personally wouldn’t quibble with it. I definitely respect his talent. |

He is no worse than the 3rd best position player in baseball. I'd take him over Harper any day of the week. I'd have him behind Trout(duh) and Altuve.

Guy is an RBI machine. I know I know, no one cares about RBI any more. Still, very few you'd rather have up to bat with your team down 1 in the 9th. And of course, best defensive 3rd baseman of his era... so hes got that going for him.

Those are some nice cards, Tex. I particularly like the Sepia Refractor and the 2013 Bowman Sterling.

Thanks, I have a Black Update /62 coming from PSA. Didn’t grade too hot as it usually has edge issues but just wanted it slabbed. Turns out to be the only black graded at all.

Arenado is an absolute wizard on defense. He’s the best defensive third baseman in baseball, and you can make a pretty compelling argument that he’s the best fielder at any position in all of baseball.
Oh and he hits 40 homers and drives in 130 per year on top of that? From a card standpoint, I’ve never quite understood why he doesn’t sell for more. There are better overall hitters and Trout is a better overall player; but no one in MLB does what Nolan does on offense AND defense. |

That is a double whammy bc he plays in a market with limited national exposure and following and he plays half his games in a stadium that makes some people doubt the legitimacy of his offensive stats. |
