Default Cards That Could Have Been...

...1996 Topps Chrome Youthquake Refractor - Kobe Bryant

Would love you hear all of yours!

Two caveats:

1. The player needs to have been active when the set came out
2. If it was a veteran only set, no rookies can be included and vice versa (example: Kobe Hot Shots)

Shawn Kemp Dunk'N Go-Nuts. I know in 98-99 he was in Cleveland, but he still averaged 20.5 in the half season he played.

He IS technically pictured and named on every card in the set already. Kind of like looking for a Grant Hill Grant's-All Rookie Team.

Oh wait-

In that case, how about a Michael Jordan Grant's All-Rookie team

This is the ultimate basketball card flub of the 90's IMO. Topps' failure to make refractors for the rookies in that set is the dumbest thing they did in their modern basketball run.

I tried to have a custom Garnett Finest RC Refractor made a few years back but it didn't turn out the way I had hoped.

Here's my suggestion: IF Topps got it's license back.

Topps Archives!
Same as 1992 but going forward to 2016. A 150 or 200 card set. Fill in the missing years of Topps and a refresh of the ones from the 1992 edition.

Have a Chrome Parallel 1:12 packs
A Chrome refractor Parallel 1:24
A Gold Refractor #ed /50
SuperFractor #ed /1
Archives Proof #ed to Player's Rookie Year (4 digit) (ex: 1996)
Archives Gold #ed to 16

That's all. It doesn't need anything else.

Man, if Topps made NBA cards throughout the 80's, I wonder how different the MJ rookie market would be.

The 86 Fleer would be worth a fraction of what it is now, considering it came out 2 seasons after he started playing.

Or how about a Shawn Kemp with the Magic, literally just called Dunk'n Donuts?

I've always wondered about the 95 finest Garnett refractor. That card is necessary.

Penny Hardaway linchpins. I love that set.

Penny was Upper Deck exclusive back then so the bold one wasn't possible at the first place.

As for the topic - I was about to mention the 1996-97 SkyBox Autographics of Kobe Bryant as well. The company did get him to sign on for the Fleer Diamond Point next season, however.

Some great ideas here.

How about a 96 Jordan/Kobe dual auto release out of SPx?

Shawn Kemp 1990 Fleer Rookie Sensations

1989-90 Fleer David Robinson rc

And the BIG one for me....a 86-87 legit Fleer Dennis Rodman rc.

Reggie Miller in pretty much every high-end Skybox insert from the 90's. It's amazing how little love he got in the hobby back then.

Since Reggie Miller was my favorite player as a kid I agree with him not having a lot of the rare inserts in the 90's, and also with my brother's favorite player being KG the 95/96 Finest Refractor is one of the biggest card blunders of all.
