Default 1971 Topps Football find

I think found a nice score on my most recent purchase. In amongst a bunch of low quality new stuff I bought for $40 was a box of about 200 1971 Topps football in wonderful condition. No Bradshaw, Greene, or Namath, but plenty of stars and HOFers. The condition of the cards is so good, I am wondering if I should submit to PSA. I've never submitted to PSA before, but in my amateur opinion, I think there are plenty of 8s and some 9s and maybe a couple better if I'm lucky. I'd love some advice on how to handle the score. Is it worth submitting commons to PSA if I think they could get a 9 or better? I know the 71s are notoriously hard to come by in good conditions.

If I get lucky and have some 9s or better, I would likely want to sell them. Where would I have the best odds of attracting the attention of the big PSA collectors? An auction house? Ebay?

I'll post a couple pictures after work tonight.

Thanks for any advice from a new vintage collector.

Best advice is to send in 5 or so first; they can be commons or stars, but pick the best 5 in condition and centering. No need to mail in hundreds to start. If your top 5 come back with 8s and 9s, sell them and use the income to send in a bigger batch.
Probstein or PWCC will probably do the best to get in front of PSA Set Registry collectors for cards like this. Stars that hit 9s or 10s might be worth going to an auction house.

mjohnatgt gave some solid advice. No need to spend a ton of dough and come back disappointed. You can also scan a few and get some opinions from the board. Should give you a good idea if your assessment is in the ball park or not.

Excellent advice here! The colored borders are tough to get those high grades so starting off small is the best way to go on these. Good luck and keep us posted OP.
