I could see him end up with 250 wins, 3000 K. With multiple CY Youngs and no-hitters already, he seems like he's probably a lock, right?

Probably going to win Cy again this year. If he does I think he's a surefire lock.

He is the definition of dominant right now. So fun to watch... except when he faces the Braves.

I say yes. Put his numbers next to his peers and you won't find much better over the same span of time.

Weaver 131-69, 3.28 ERA, 1688 IP, 1405 Ks, 123 ERA+, 1.152 WHIP, 4 top 5 Cy Young finishes Max 125-69, 3.39 ERA, 1696 IP, 1881 Ks, 123 ERA+, 1.145 WHIP, 4 top 5 Cy Young finishes (ok, so Max won 2) I mean, Weaver's story isn't over yet, and Max has been great, but he still has a long way to climb that mountain.

I think Scherzer is a very interesting candidate and could be a big debate when his career is over, depending on how it ends. He didn't really hit his stride until he was 27, as he was just an average to above average pitcher statistically for his first 4 seasons. He is already 32, so I think it would depend on how long he can hold on to his peak. Hypothetically, would 6 dominant years in a 13-15 year career get a player into the HOF? Baseball Reference lists Jered Weaver, Josh Beckett, and Jake Peavy as the most similar pitchers to Scherzer through his age 31 season. I don't think any of those players will be getting in.

Or Johan Santana through age 31:
133-69, 3.10 ERA, 1908 IP, 1877 K, 142 ERA+, 1.120 WHIP, 5 top 5 Cy Young finishes (with 2 wins) Or Roy Oswalt through age 31: 137-70, 3.23 ERA, 1803 IP, 1473 K, 134 ERA+, 1.202 WHIP, 5 top 5 Cy Young finishes You never know when the wheels are gonna come off or if an injury comes lurking. Max has a long road ahead still. |

Absolutely. Like others have said he has been an example of pure dominance. 2,000 K's, career 10.1 K/9, 3.24 ERA., 1.12 ERA

I think he is on the fringe right now, but hopefully some more Cy Young's, no hitters, or postseason success solidifies him.

He will get to 225+ wins. And a World Series couldn't hurt

Given how tough it has been for non-Braves starters lately, no.
Look at how little support Mussina & Schilling have gotten, for example. |

idk how you can compare weaver to scherzer. weaver has fallen off a cliff while scherzer has aged like fine wine.

He is already 33. He has had a dominate 5 years, but he will need a few others to get there. No way he gets 250 wins. He is barley half way now

Um, that's his point. When Weaver was his age were we talking about Weaver as a HOF? Then after his falloff no one is. Granted Max has been more dominate then Weaver ever was.

Guys, shush. He has no shot. He's a disaster. Scherzer couldn't even stick with the D'backs when they were terrible. Liquidate all your Scherzer holdings in an ebay firesale and put the pitiful yield on Strasburg.

Can we wait until his career is over or at least winding down? Way too early.
