Default Leaf Pearl

Leaf revealed a new high-end multisport product on their Twitter feed today called Leaf Pearl. These are the football cards they previewed (some of them are yet to be signed):

Despite not having the NFL license, I think these look really good. Does anyone think they'll hold value?

Panini --> Stealing UD design ideas since forever.

Leaf --> Stealing Panini's already stolen ideas since forever.

So this is like the value village version of Flawless for people that don't mind lack of logos?

Something like that. The Aikman relic in particular looks like they cut out the middleman and went back to Exquisite for "inspiration".

I forgot to add, Leaf says that every card will be acetate, front and back. They haven't announced a price point or product configuration, but I'd be shocked if it's as expensive as Flawless.

wonder why they dont use warm up pictures without helmets? Logos on helmets are a killer for me on cards.

Leaf makes great cards, these look great to me. Would love to know who all will be featured.

I'm not going to lie, anytime a product shares a name with a feminine hygiene product, I cannot get past that.

Cards look nice, but dat name bro.

I saw these on their Twitter this afternoon as well, plus a few others that were totally awesome for GU multipatches.

Is it me, or are several of these cards sporting an acetate coating?

First thing I thought. Especially that last Brady 1/1.

Close enough, looks on par with some of Brian's boxes.

(Full disclosure, I am a fan of Brian's products, but that name is just not working lol)

The base 1/1s have gold pearls (instead of Flawless's diamonds), but maybe Leaf should take a page from Tampax's playbook and call them "Super Plus".

Mayweather's a huge tampon, so it works on multiple levels.

To top it off, the pearl is located in the "groinal" area, so it is in the correct position.

There's so much winning with this product.

Look for randomly inserted Family Jewel and Pearl Necklace 1/1's, featuring your favorite female athletes/celebrities past and present.

My god the innuendo is strong in this one. Inadvertently or not, Brian deserves a Purple Heart for his trolling endeavors.

i think leaf does as well as possible most of the time using shots that do not show the side of the helmet. not perfect, but they seem to try to use these shots

so.. without a license leaf can't put the players association or NFL logos on their card.
however, they can put in a piece of jersey, with the NFL logo on it?

That is correct. They cant create a product using NFL or Team Logos in their imagery or in writing (They cant even type the word Chicago Bears as an example). But there is nothing stopping them from buying a fully licensed NFL jersey, and incorporating a swatch of that in their products.

They are essentially reselling a piece of something they bought, that was created and fully licensed, and using part of that in a new retail product.

Much like any buyback product that is out there. If new Leaf bought back some 1990's baseball cards made by old leaf (who held MLB licensees at the time) they can then have those cards reinserted into new packs. But they cant create new versions of those old cards and make fresh copies without holding the proper licenses.

They just cant take logo's & players photo images and create a new product incorporating those.

Now I do remember reading somewhere that team colors and other attributes could NOT be used either. Something about confusing consumers into thinking a product is endorsed somehow by the team or league. Not sure how they get around that since they clearly show players wearing team colors.

All I can say is nice product but no logos is a killer. For that reason I am out. LOL
