Post Some Topps Star Wars Autograph Data

Hi all,

Just thought I'd look at the sets since 2001 and see how many unique signers we've had and how many duplicates.

Based on my info I see 844 names (this counts single card autos only, if the signer signed for two or more characters in a set they stayed as a double or triple for their set, so I'm counting by character [Dickey Beer signed for 3 characters in Sugar Free ]).

Of the 844 names, there are 219 unique names. 77 of the 219 names have only signed for 1 set. A majority are from either one of the animated series or the 30th anniversary. Additionally a few of them have passed like McGrath from AOTC, Kirshner from ESB, etc in addition to the big names we've lost like Fisher, Baker, and Bauersfeld.

Now for who has signed in the most sets:
Anthony Daniels 19
Carrie Fisher 21
Harrison Ford 14
Ian McDiarmid 11
Jeremy Bulloch 16
Kenny Baker 15
Mark Hamill 19 (he has 1 extra because in 2016 Evo he signed as Luke & Darth Bane)
Matthew Wood 13
Mike Quinn 15
Peter Mayhew 18
Tim Rose 17

Good news, the main actors you'd want to be in sets: Ford, Hamill, Fisher, Baker, Daniels, Mayhew are all there. The bad news is Fisher and Baker have passed and Ford won't be signing for Ep 8 or Ep 9 products (unless Han survived )

The bad news is that the top people only combine for a few hundred autos, meanwhile Quinn, Rose, and Wood have signed probably 1,000 or more combined cards and continue to plague us as our auto hit

One idea I have is for some set for Topps to have booklets for guys like Beer, Wood, Quinn, Rose, etc with their auto and then images of all their characters around it. I'm fairly certain Matt Wood has signed for over 5 characters besides Grievous.

*edit* Harriet Walter and Dave Accord had typos and I missed 2006 Evolution Update so there's now: 844 signers/characters, 214 unique signers, 71 one-time signers

73 of the 217 names have only signed for 1 set.

Really brilliant info.
I would have NEVER guessed there were 217 dif signers.

Great info. I actually been waiting on a similar topic to be started and even go further and see characters that have not signed (still alive). I would imagine that number is in the hundreds. Thanks again, Robert

I don't see Hayden Christensen on the list. I believe he's a one-time signer (for 2006 SW Evolution Update)

Ooh, you know what, I think I missed that set. I was trying to cover them all. I'll update the data later.

I have 7 Bonnie Piesse autos from different sets and at least 2 Kenneth Colleys. Seems there may be more from your list that have been in multiple sets. Not trying to knock your research work just letting you know that you may have missed on a couple. Of coarse I could be reading it wrong as well I guess.

The sets I used were:
Evolution 2016
R1 S2
R1 S1
R1 MB
FA S1
FA S2
FA Chrome
40th Anniversary
MW 2016
High Tek 2016
Chrome JvS
Sugar Free
Heritage
ANH Illustrated
GF 1
GF 2
JTTFA
AOTC 3D
MW 2014
Jedi Legacy
Galaxy 6
Evolution 2001
30th Anniversary
ROTS 3D
Chrome Perspectives
ROTJ 3D
ESB Illustrated
AOTC WV
ROTS WV
Clone Wars WV
Evolution 2006

Galaxy 6 had sketchagraphs, but I didn't look up any other Galaxy sets and really sketchagraphs are a whole different beast since their price is a lot higher due to the artwork.

The 7 Piesse autos are all from that list. I know this probably took a lot of time and like others I appreciate the time and effort to put this into list form but just wanted to let you know that some of the product checklists may have been inaccurate. Fun to see a couple of names that I had completely forgotten about on the list!

Great work, yeah I am sure it was very difficult to put this together.
Mainly because many sources such as Beckett and Cardboard Connection can be inaccurate in some places.
Heck I don't even fully trust the checklist from Topps.
Example: They say that Ford auto were in 2016 Evolution, yet nobody has seen or heard about one a year later!

That could be it as well. For example, I know Matt Sloan never signed for the first Masterworks, because I had a redemption for him , and then got Bonnie's auto in place of it .

I took most checklist data off of Beckett and CardboardConnection and one or two sets I had to go to NSLists for the checklists.

I just figured this is a nice snapshot of what is all out there and also show how some signers need to be stopped for a while because the market is flooded with them and it's boring to keep getting the same character.

Yeah, that was due to typos from copying and pasting the checklists.

A few of them I only had once so I must be missing a few sets still.

This data is great! Thanks for putting the time in!

Just looking at your list of one-time signers, I see so many that would've just made the 40th set awesome:
Frank Oz
Gary Kurtz
Hayden Christiansen
James Arnold Taylor
Joel Edgerton
John Dykstra
John Williams
Lorne Peterson (it would be cut yes i know disney would't allow it but I can dream)
Matt Lanter
Samuel L. Jackson

and then of course some other ones like:
Lawrence Kasdan
Kathleen Kennedy
JJ Abrams
Rian Johnson (he CANNOT be that hard. He went to people in line for TLJ panel at midnight)
Spielberg

A list with some of those signers minus about 30 minor characters would've been amazing. Then they can fill the remaining hits with sketches and some creative new manufactured hits. Oh well, I guess it'll be a while until I get over that letdown of a checklist.

What would prevent Lorne Peterson from signing cards/stickers? He just completed a private signing through a Star Wars autograph group on Facebook.

Not a chance that Frank Oz will be signing anytime soon. Frank Oz use to be great at signing autographs in person but now he flat out refuses to.
Frank Oz Signing?

If Topps didn't get Alan Tudyk and Hayden Christensen to sign cards for them at Celebration then they really missed a good opportunity. Would not be surprised if we don't see them included in sets soon. Hayden Christensen was super nice when I met him at Celebration and got his autograph.

Oh yeah of course whoops brain fart. Not sure why I thought that, I almost participated in that signing on SWAU...

I guess that would be Frank who would be the cut then... Whoops lol

I recently pulled an Ian Abercrombie auto. One time signer, but also found out he's now deceased.

Thanks for the list - I started to do something like this a while ago, and realised how HUGE an effort it would be, so didn't get very far.

One set I would mention that I don't think you have is Galaxy 5 - this had (IIRC) Baker, Bulloch, Mayhew, JEJ, Prowse, Hamill.

I also didn't see Tek 15 on the list of sets?
