Your thoughts On Isiah Thomas On Players Only

First of all, I love basketball so I'll watch no matter how bad or good the show is but I really am not a fan of the Monday night TNT program.

I appreciate the effort of TNT to get the players perspective and get them involved and once in a while you do hear a cool thought you never heard before. But for the most part I find it like an amateur version of the Thurs panel and man does Isiah Thomas make it awkward and sometimes contentious.

Now maybe that makes for good TV at times but aside from his racial )piggy black, smh) comments while playing, aside from him running my Knicks into the ground (as many have) and aside from beating up Ewing and my favorite Knick players in the late 80s early 90s, and aside from his bitterness at players like Malone, Pippen, etc... I find him so frustrating on this segment.

He acts like some OG tough guy. A quick youtube search will show several moments where he makes things uncomfortable. But what really bothers me about it is that he is really smart when it comes to basketball. So it is interesting to hear his analysis of the pure game but his social skills to me are just a disaster.

Anyone agree or disagree when they watch him?

Here are some example of him being really weird. With Baron Davis, great defensive tips while acting like a hardass and cursing.

I am not a fan of the players only broadcasts either. Brent barry is ok, but the color commentators are mediocre. Like you said they'll have some interesting inside tidbits about the game, but for the most part its just a giant jerk fest of an opportunity for them to talk about themselves and their memories (see: Shaq)

I enjoy watching him, and I don't find either of those segments "uncomfortable".

Brent Barry really is the saving grace of all of it. He's legitimately good.

Man, most of the other guys are really bad though.

I feel like their studio stuff doesn't work because the anchor seems to be the one guy who is okay with not talking much, players are too competitive.

Sorta bad examples in your OP but there's no denying the guy is special ed. Don't forget he harassed a female Knicks exec and Dolan had to settle for $12 million. Guy used to go into tantrums behind the scenes.

You can half-expect him to have these kinds of views when you consider where and who he grew up with...

Also agree about Brent Barry, he's great. Him, Reggie and Mchale are really the only good former player personalities in my view. Webber, Baron, Bosh, Jackson, Fisher, KG, Shaq - they are all horrible. (Not saying it should come as a surprise either).

Terrible thread. Back in the day when he was on NBC, I didn't think he was very good. Since joining Turner though, Zeke has been outstanding. Maybe the best studio guy on the networks.

Players Only has been rough around the edges, but you have to remember this is their first time doing everything on the broadcast. Ernie's been doing it for 30 years. Overall, I've quite enjoyed it.

To me, I could post everything bad about Isiah ever but that's not my goal. I do not like him but have nothing against the Pistons and they were never a major Knicks rival. I chose the videos because in one he's cursing on the air and getting kinda competitive for no reason and the other because Ludacris was clearly confused by him prodding about the family stuff and it was bad tv and he wouldn't let it go.

I don't think they are bad examples because they are not about Isiah the person just Isiah being awkward on the Players Only segment. But if you don't like those there are plenty, literally one a night so no worries. Ever see this one as far as awkward Isiah moments though? At Indiana. Look at Bobby Knight.

I agree. I think Isaiah is interesting and insightful. He's really good at this.

The Ludacris/family question last night was kinda awkward though.

He overly projects way too much. Like he's sizing up his guests during a pick up game in Harlem.

Most modern day sports segments are pretty unwatchable. Apparently just sitting down and discussing sports topics in a civilized manner without swag juice is no longer in.
