Default 2011 Topps Update Boxes

Hey all -

I just got a promotion at work. Woohoo! And wanted to celebrate by ripping a box or two of 2011 Topps Update. I never had the joy of pulling a Trout RC and I know it's only going to get more unlikely going forward, so I want to take the chance.

Do you know anywhere that is reputable and reasonably priced for me to buy? Maybe a member here? I'm very nervous to just get something off eBay and BO doesn't have any left.

Thanks so much for the help!

I haven't seen any of these boxes in a while. I bet somebody knows where some are.

Unfortunately, these boxes have gone up so much in price, it's probably not worth taking a chance and busting one. BO's main online competitor has boxes for $380.

My advice: just treat yourself with a graded BGS 9.5 or 10 Topps Update Mike Trout RC. That way, the card you want is in excellent condition and centered well. If you rip open a box, there is a chance you won't get one or you might get a very off centered one.

Why take a chance on a box? Just buy the Trout card you want, it will be cheaper that way.

I think he wants to have an experience of pack pulling a rookie. Sometimes it's not about the money but about the fun and experience.

Congrats on the promotion. I don't think we can publicly post competitors to BO on here but there are boxes out there that would be safe to buy.

Yeah, I figured it's cheaper and more guaranteed to just buy a 9.5 RC, but I'm willing to take the risk to have the experience of pulling it. I'm a ripper. And couldn't afford any wax in 2011 so I missed out. Now I can, thankfully, so hoping to make up for some missed memories. To me, this card is the modern day holy grail for RCs, and has always been a huge missing moment for me. Will let you know if I get any and what I pull.

Thanks for the advice and info!!

I need to trade a raw one for a Miguel Cabrera raw RC. Will take me forever to get around to grading my Trout RC stash - ripped a lot of it, scored a Rizzo Hope Anniversary /60 RC. Lots of other good RC in that release. Altuve, JD Martinez, Dee Gordon, Paul Goldschmidt too I think. Happy Ripping!

The 2011 Topps Update blasters seemed like they would pop up at Walmart for $11.99 for a couple of years after issue. I bought a to. Of them, but sold all of Trout's for under $10 each.

They use to be plentiful int he value boxes as well...I've never hit any though. I was better off keeping them and selling them for $20 a pack lol.

To be honest, it wasn't memorable to pull a Mike Trout rookie in 2011.

Ha. Fair point. I'm sure it was still exciting to look through old boxes to find them in your collection though. I know I've had that moment a couple of times with other rookies and prospects.

For just a little bit more $$, you could grab a graded Update Trout and a 2010 Elite Auto. Then have fun ripping open your mail

But I do get it, good luck on the box!

Well, this has clearly been a blindspot for me. I only got back into the hobby about 13 months ago but I'm still kind of embarrassed that I didn't notice the incredible demand placed on this. I never would have imagined the prices such a mass-produced product would fetch due to a single player (even if he is Mike Trout).

Good luck bro, last time i had that feeling. I paid $800 for a box of 1996-97 Topps Chrome for a chance at a Kobe Ref RC. Didnt pull one. Looking back i should have just bought one outright.

Ouch. Yeah, that has to sting. It would definitely suck to not pull one, but such is the thrill of the chase... Generally when I bust wax, I'm not hoping for one specific card, so even if a box is disappointing, there's generally something I think is okay. With this, it's zero sum, all or nothing, either I hit one, or I don't...

Yep - mine were last month. On a whim I decided to buy a box of 1993 Finest Baseball and a box of 1993 SP Baseball - for the memories. No Jeter in the SP or Damon's either not that they would have helped much and most of my Finest were scratched up probably due to the box being taken to shows for a good part of 20 years. It was a 1k + loss overall.

Yep. Not only because the base is a high dollar card, but the parallels can go for crazy money.

There are also some other rookies who in any other year would be the top player on the checklist (Altuve, Rizzo, etc...). Just a tremendous checklist.

Some time in the Fall of 2013, I bought a case of Update blasters from BO. I didn't hit a single Trout. I would recommend buying a nice graded Trout instead.

good luck OP!! I totally understand where you are coming from.

I went through this experience in football, hoping to pull a Brady auto rookie and got lucky.

Best of luck!
