Default Do you think new basketball cards from one pack boxes will hold their value?

Anything from Court Kings to National Treasures.

All I buy are one pack boxes and I know it's a better investment than buying a box of hoops.

I know the general drill for making money on cards is selling when a player has hype. I'm just wondering if the better cards I'm getting, like the signed Durants and signed Currys, are going to be worth anything in 30 years.

I know savings bonds are a better investment than cards, but savings bonds are just so damn boring.

Buy land. In all seriousness though, I suspect the sought after rookies of any all time great will likely hold some semblance of value in the future. Beyond rookies, nah, they produce too much year after year for any particular, random auto to hold its initial, highest value for long beyond the release of the product.

Obv rookies and rookie year stuff will hold value, but there will always be something else that stays in demand years later.

80's: High Grade Base
90's: Hard to find inserts
00's: Almost anything Exquisite
10's: ???????? Anyone have a guess?

Jeez, I really can't say what the 10's xfactor will be... It's already been so many flash in the pan things.... Totally certified Greens, kaboom, immaculate, treasures, I'm not sure what will still be popular in another decade. I wouldn't be surprised to see a resurgence in popularity for sets that were hot and are now cooling down (flawless base, USA prizm insets, etc)

I think why 90s inserts are so hot is bc everyone was buying packs hoping to hit a pmg or ruby or platinum medallion. You literally had thousands upon thousands interested in a a single set and buying cards from it. Now there are significantly less buyers per product. You don't have to chase to get the vast majority of chase cards. You can buy 3 packs and get a major hit. It's too easy (if you have money) to get a hit it's less meaningful and special

He specifically asked if anything he was currently opening would hold value. Nothing was mentioned about vintage, graded, etc. I think of current products, what I said will hold true. It would take an all-time great to have and hold steady values and the best, most solid cards of them to lock up would be the most sought after rookies.

I don't necessarily agree with this. It may often be true. But not always. And the lower end sets tend to have "case hit" level inserts - that while not hot at the moment may become desirable in the future. To top that off i'm not convinced that all those "player worn" patches are going to hold much value in the future.
