We haven't even had our first 12 team playoff yet and they're already discussing expansion to 14 teams in 2026.

I guess they calculated how much money they're making per game, and decided hey let's grab 2 more...

I’m excited for another Liberty vs Oregon game.

It will be 16 before it's done. No byes for anybody. I don't think it will go any further, the season would get too long.

I agree. We are already at 4 rounds so going from 12 to (eventually) 16 will be very easy. Top 8 will host a first round game then when there are 8 teams left we shift to bowl sites.

Fact is it is overwhelmingly going to be the Big 10-SEC Challenge. IMHO we can expect at least 10 of the 16 from those 2 conferences. There will be 3 other conference champs and Notre Dame probably gets in more often than not... beyond that I wouldn't expect more than one or two (at most) at larges from outside the B10/SEC.

If/when they go from 12 to 14 and then 14 to 16, they will be adding at large bids, so you can safely assume the vast majority of those will go to B10 or SEC schools.

EDIT: The above statement is not necessarily correct. Part of the discussion of expanding the playoffs is the idea of adding automatic qualifiers for the Power 2 conferences. Obviously nothing is written in stone but that is potentially part of the equation.

Will be interesting to see how many teams get in with 3 losses each year.

Starting today EA Sports allows current college football players to opt in to allow the game maker to use their NIL in the upcoming video game. Any player who chooses to opt in will be paid $600 and given a copy of the video game.

I can only imagine scrubs would be excited about that pay scale when the top players make millions. Do you suppose EA is negotiating contracts with the top players or just not including anyone who doesn’t accept their scraps? Surely, they’ll negotiate a big deal for a cover star.

I read that yes, they are setting aside money for players involved in the marketing of the game. So the guy on the cover will make some good money and a small handful of superstars will probably get some extra money to promote the game on instagram and silliness like that.

I mean at $600 a player times 133 NCAA teams times an average of 118 players per team is just shy of $9.5 million. Plus giving away a potential excess of nearly 15,700 copies of the game would cut into profits.

Roughly 1.5 million copies of the last issue of the release came at a sticker price of $59.99 for a total sales number of lets say $90,000,000.

Adjusting for inflation, game cost increase, etc, it still would appear that the players would be getting about a tenth of the total sales revenue (not total profits). This is not to mention the cost of licensing with the actual schools, any coaches that may opt in, announcers, etc.

I think $600 is a reasonable number.

Always interesting to see how directly ESPN shapes the college football landscape.

Above and beyond payments to Texas to smooth over their early BigXII departure.

I like to think he was a model citizen at Florida before Georgia corrupted him with booster money and booze.

Down there you can kill your teammate and then get drafted in the Top 10 a few weeks laters.
