Very clearly aware of his defining moment and the opportunity that it represents.

The stolen bases are comical at this point, and I question why more teams don’t run players like the Dodgers do Shohei. Second in the league in SB, and doing it at a 92% clip. Miles ahead in efficiency compared to guys like Elly, Witt, and Carroll.

Shohei isn’t the fastest. But he is the most opportunistic. Pitchers still aren’t paying attention to the threat he poses.

Hello, I am new to the hobby and would like to start with Ohtani graded rookie cards. Lucky to have found this forum to try to learn more from you all. I have a question specifically about Ohtani's rookie licensed RPAs from sets such as Topps Dynasty, Inception, Triple Threads, and Bowman Platinum. Has anyone seen any PSA 10s for sale or are they very hard to grade to a 10 so hard to find? Thanks.

If they are a thick card, especially with a patch or other relic, they are very hard to grade as a ten.

A normal card is flat and has just the four edges and corners. A thick card has 8 corners and 8 edges. Throw in relics and the number of edges and corners increases exponentially.

Very very few of these types of cards come from the factory in “10” condition.

It also depends on how the overall cards are packaged and distributed. Each one of the brands you mentioned have different packaging methods which makes overall product runs have better or worse conditioning overall. A pack pulled patch auto will be much more condition sensitive than a Dynasty card.

Thank you for that, very helpful. I'll keep an eye out for them but sounds like they are hard to find. Separately, am trying to see which rookie autos are worthwhile candidates to consider for holding -- understand it's bit of an open ended question but any kind thoughts you have there would be helpful. Having read a lot of the prior posts here and done some research on my own, the Bowman Chrome autos seem to be in a league of their own (pitching image #CRASO more desirable than batting image #BCRASO) at least in terms of prices (not sure if the massive price premium is deserving over the long term?), followed by Topps Chrome (Sapphire #AC-SO and #RA-SO), and then followed by the next tier of brands.
Just taking a look at some of the higher-end numbered rookie autos auctioned in the last couple of days:
- Topps Chrome RA Orange Refractor /25 PSA10 sold for $30k
- Bowman Chrome RA Orange Refractor /25 PSA9 sold for $74k
- Bowman's Best Best of '18 Atomic Auto /25 PSA10 sold for $13k
- and then I see on eBay a Topps Chrome Sapphire Orange /25 PSA10 being offered at $32k...
Trying to make sense on the Relative value here... Thanks.

Batting is BCRASO and Pitching is CRASO. Bowman autos simply have the running pedigree advantage when you look at other player's equivalent cards and wax prices. Not to say it can't change, but it doesn't look probable. If you're looking for the intersection of value/pedigree, it's probably a TC parallel.

Right now, everyone is looking for an Ohtani auto so it's hard to say it's a great time to buy, but if the dodgers makes a playoff run and Sho enters Spring with two-way health, it may end up not being a bad time.

Thank you. Where would you price the Topps Chrome Sapphire Auto relative to the Topps Chrome RA? (Trying to understand the dynamics/history between them as am new to this). Thanks.

Bit of a loaded question as the TC Sapphire auto base is more short-printed than the TC regular base auto. So if you're talking base vs base, Sapphire wins by a land slide.

Before I talk about parallels, I will put the disclaimer out there that the TC Sapphire orange you mentioned is mine, so make sure you do your own homework. Now that I got that over with - it is my belief that Sapphire holds a slight advantage over the equivalent color to TC. Sapphire is a more premium set but some people like traditional TC. Puts and takes - it comes down to what you like, as TBP said.

Seems prices on low to mid end RC cards are trending up again! Bad news is deals are really hard to find now.

I have noticed this on all his cards. I think his 50/50 chase is gaining a lot of attention and causing this. Still have my eye on a bigger card but waiting until the offseason.

I am sitting here doing colonoscopy prep and thinking about doing a 2,000 card binder of unique, low-end Sho's. Anybody who is sitting on a crap ton of low-end Sho base, feel free to reach out to me.

Excluding auto's, the number is close to 8,000 before 2023 and 2024.
