One of the tension points between football collectors/investors without Mahomes cards vs. collectors/investors with his cards is the NFL/NBA comparison. Both pejc300 and pcptrade cited basketball card sales in their retorts. Guys, the NFL will never be the NBA. It's really that simple and I know you guys collect basketball, so you should know this. No one should have to explain this.

Moving on. Throughout the past 2 years, all the Mahomies wanted to talk about is how brilliant Mahomes is (which he is) and how he leads his team to victory, game-in, game-out. But they never wanted to have a serious discussion about how much of an impact Mahomes, by himself, had on the games vs. the talent around him. To them, it was Mahomes 100%. The point is, it doesn't matter how great Mahomes is. He's great, just like Montana, Young, Favre, Brees, Manning, Rodgers, etc. was/are great. Often what separates these players' careers are the players around him. And it seems as though, Mahomes fans, KC fans, or both, just realized this for the first time last night. But to act as though Mahomes is that much more talented than any of those guys above is ridiculous. Which isn't to say he isn't more talented. But by THAT much?

In the end, Mahomes will still have a great career and win another SB or two. But 5? No. And that won't take anything away from his awesome skill set or ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, however, it also doesn't separate him that much from other great QB's who were great in their own way as well. It's just that you may not want to hear that when you just spent close to $1M on a Mahomes NT RPA.

Any guesses to what career accolades he achieves in the next 10+ years is all speculation. No one knows. But it is fact that no one could excel behind center for the chiefs last night. Hats off to the Bucs for what they did. I will say that there were way too many classless Bucs fans last night, but that’s another story.

Last thought for the day. Chiefs fans and particularly Mahomes investors need to take the criticism (and the outlandish takes) on the chin today. Just take it. Most of us would be dishing it out today if the result was the opposite.

I leave you with this: I wish I would have bought a lot more Lebron when he lost to the Mavs and I wish I would have bought a lot more Brady when he lost to the Eagles.

I mentioned clearly in my posts that it is not an apples to apples comparison when I compared the prices to basketball. I was only pointing out Luka Gold Prizm PSA 10 that sold for 800K. That does not mean Mahomes Gold Prizm or Gold Vinyl PSA 10 should be worth the same. I also said people need to understand the risks involved investing in Mahomes cards.

From Feb 5th

He said it is for his PC and he is not planning to offer it as fractional shares.

Bingo. NO one could have. That O-Line was HORRIBLE...the worst I've seen in the Mahomes era.

That O-Line exposed a lot for us. One big thing for me was why on earth did they not use an extra back, run the ball more early on, or have Kelce block on a few more plays (especially when the line is struggling so badly). There were also no adjustments throughout the game on either side of the ball, and let not pretend we thought our defence is the best in the league. They got exposed last night, and that mixture of the run game and play action was exactly the patriots way for 6 Super Bowls previously. Great game plan and they took full advantage of our weaknesses. A masterpiece really. Hard loss, but they will learn from this.

I wish the O-line issues had happened in an earlier game so that they could have addressed it better. Not in the SB finals

I hope Mahomes' card prices drop. Those were some sick throws he made last night. He did his part, but the other end, not so much.

0 doubt they will drop, the question is how much? What would they need to drop for you to purchase?

Mahomes cards are already dropping like crazy. I have seen some new threads in the B/S/T section of people selling their Mahomes. Gotta love the panic selling from the newbies in the hobby! Mahomes is a generational talent, his cards will be a great investment in the next few months! When the National rolls around, people will be buying him like crazy!

Sure, the NFL market is not what the NBA market is. But comparisons between great quarterbacks and star NBA players is entirely warranted imo because the basketball market, while much bigger, gets spread out much more than football. The football market is essentially star QBs and nothing else. So while the overall market is smaller, it is much more concentrated in guys like Brady, Rodgers, Montana, Mahomes and a handful of others.

As far your second paragraph, I think everyone understands the importance of having a good team around you. But doesn't last night's game show just how impressive Mahomes was this year. That O-line was a problem all year, particularly against good fronts, and he still led them to the best record in the NFL and a Super Bowl Appearance. I think most of us understood the deficiencies this team had, which made us appreciate Mahomes even more for what he has done. I think most NFL QBs would take a superior offensive line with less talented skill players than vice versa. To put things into perspective, last night was a record for QB pressures, so lets not get carried away with all the...every other QB faces that kind of pressure every week nonsense. The KC O-line was exposed for what it was and Mahomes, Kelce and Hill were able to mask that deficiency all year as well as anyone could.

Come on man. Brady will forever be a 7 time champ.

He’ll forever be remembered for coming back down 28-3 to the Falcons (sorry Siberian)

Picking that almost undefeated season as what he’ll “hold the title for” is maybe the most ridiculous thing ever written on these boards.

Mahomes is amazing. I wish he was on the Niners. But no one has a crystal ball.

Last night was rough for sure.

It was the epidemy of a game where everything goes wrong. Everything.

That being said, when I look around at the sports card market, and the all the top hobby stars under the age of 30:

Mahomes
Trout
Luka
Giannis
Zion

I still only see 1 guy who's ever been to a championship game, let alone 2 with a ring.

As somebody else mentioned, I wish I would have bought more LeBron after his finals loss with the Heat (or Cavs), and I wish I would have bought more Brady after his losses to the Giants and Eagles. When I started picking up Mahomes, I knew he wasn't going to run the next 15 Super Bowls. Even with this set back, he's done alot this season to really separate himself from anyone not named Tom Brady.

Is he though? Or is he just top 5 with incredible weapons, scheme, and situation? Can't tell. Thats the thing about Twitter evals. Far too much blame is given to QBs on losses and too much credit for wins. Football is such a team game.

What you saw Mahomes go through yesterday was every week for Watson, Trubisky, Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Sam Darnold, etc. Every week Sam Darnold is running for his life like that, except, he has no Kelce or Hill or Reid to bail him out. Mitch doesn't have 2 stars wide open on every route, he's got scrubs dropping end zone dimes in playoff games. Drew Lock's oline all year looked like Mahomes last night - both teams operating with reserve tackles. Daniel Jones doesn't have a single WR that would be above a WR3 on the Chiefs and his TE led the league in drops at his position.

My point is not that Mahomes isn't top tier. He is. But the gap is waaaaaay closer than Mahomes fans think. I personally am of the opinion that if you put Rodgers, Wilson, Allen, Kyler, or a few others on the Chiefs, you'd have the same result. Mahomes had 16 dropped INTs this year. Lets stop acting like he levitates above the rest.

Just a few things. Last night sucked as a Chiefs fan that was a huge disappointment. They got their butts kicked. I thought that was the worst I've ever seen Andy outcoached. Hats off to the Bucs and their coaching staff taking the Chiefs to the woodshed.

I see a lot of people blaming the drops, O-line, and refs, etc. The reality is Pat wasn't good enough last night. They made it to the Bucs 30 6 times and didn't score a TD. Football is the ultimate team sport and the QB is the most important piece. You can't sit and praise him for how great he is when they win and not put blame on him for last night. Some may think that is harsh, but the same people praise him when Hill/Kelce are putting in work and making things easy. Last night they didn't make the plays they needed to and that includes PM15. But not scoring a TD with those offensive weapons is unacceptable and I don't care how bad the O line was. The O line has been bad all year. Andy knew the O line was going to be bad and somehow they didn't adjust one time?

As for PM15's prices. 90% of things will drop significantly. Hell they dropped after a ring last year (market is stronger now). However, they will drop. A lot of us have said repeatedly to move the easy to find stuff and focus on the harder to find stuff. Hopefully people took that advice.

We are used to watching him be Superman and overcome anything and everything this year. The clock ran out on that last night.

The good news is they will be SB favorites heading into next year and he will be the MVP favorite heading into next year. PM15 and the Chiefs will be just fine. However, last night was disappointing. Never in my wildest dreams did I think they wouldn't score a TD. Like pejc300 said, take the L to the chin. A lot of us glorify and say how great he is, but need to be honest and take the criticism when people come in here and talk crap. The fact of the matter is half of you would be trolling TB12 if they results were reversed.

No excuses, he wasn't good enough for them to win that football game last night. The Chiefs weren't good enough to win that football game last night. Lastly, the Chiefs coaching staff wasn't good enough to win that game last night. Sometimes you go to the school yard and get your A** whipped by someone bigger and that is what happened last night.

It is going to be a long offseason for everyone in KC after that beat down last night.

You realize that this was the same offensive line he finished the Buffalo game with two weeks ago, don't you?

Before that, it was the same offensive line plus one guy. And no, this wasn't the same line as Watson had... he has one the best left tackles in the NFL in Tunsil.

It's like one bad game against the best team in the NFL erased 3 years worth of amazing play to the 'victim of the moment' rubes around here.

I’m a huge Jets fan. I’ve watched every single snap in Sam Darnold’s career. Sam Darnold is not even close to Mahomes. Can Sam be better with a good head coach and weapons? Or any of those QB’s you mentioned. Of course. But if you watch Mahomes play, his athletic ability is better than anyone I’ve ever seen. He throws on the run, he can pick up a first down easily with his legs, he has pocket awareness, he has high football IQ, he has off the charts arm strength, etc. No one is like Mahomes. He’s going to win plenty of Super Bowls. I’m more of a baseball guy, but I know talent when I see it.

Watson doesn't have the same oline, but he has a WAY WAY WAY worse supporting cast, coach,, scheme and Defense.

All I'm saying is Mahomes has the advantage of a good team. Top QBs typically get added to trash teams at the top of the draft and thrown to the wolves. Mahomes had a playoff team trade up to snag him, gave him a year to learn, and has greatly benefitted as such.

Hes not THAT much better than others. I personally think Aaron Rodgers is definitely better, and others like Allen or Watson are right on Mahomes butt for #2. You can make a case for either being as good if in KC.

I didn't say Darnold was as good. Just saying what happened to Mahomes happens regularly to QBs deemed trash. And his outcome, like those others, was trash stats. And IMO, while it took awhile, I do feel Josh Allen has all those things you mentioned, slightly less accurate maybe, but a far superior runner.

Not here to comment on SB, GOATness, or opinion of players ... just the title of the thread ... TB has 136 RC cards total (parallels, inserts, college uni, etc) PM has 1719. Basic supply and demand says TB rookies should be valued at roughly 10X equivalent PM rookie cards right? That's getting close to apples and apples or at least pears right? Now, assuming a collector is factoring similar demand (IE popularity, achievements, investment potential (though i hate that word when talking about cardboard pictures of people)) you should be able to pinpoint rough estimates of values. So take a Brady Chrome PSA10 (pop a little over 1k) and PM Prizm Silver PSA10 (pop a bit below 1000) and you would think value of TB would be 10X PM (just basic rudimentary S&D). The week before the SB those brady's were going for 20k, those Mahomes were going for 15k. Now i know these are not the same card, but pop reports are close, not identical. I know that they may be the most collectible of or *cringe* investment grade non-auto rcs of each. With that said, given the assumption that PM ends his career with similar demand as TB, one could argue that he is roughly 750% over valued, as of last week. Now there could be an argument that his ceiling is higher than Brady's for many reasons, talent, marketability, potential. Not a card price tracker, these were quick e-bay searches so the numbers could be off, but if the above is accurate ... either PM is valued significantly differently than Brady, or there is a bubble. Not all bubbles pop, they can be sustained or even proven to be factual demand given new information, but we are looking at a mature market and an emerging market here ... making bets on emerging markets at a 7.5X premium is a bet a lot of people make. A lot of those people don't love the outcome though. Anyways both great QBs

I find someone saying Mahomes wasn't good enough last night laughable. He was literally running backwards 10 yards every play as soon as he got the snap. It was an all time record for QB pressures. Any other QB would have been sacked a dozen times. They got outcoached and the offensive line got dominated. Period. If people want to blame Mahomes for that loss, that's their prerogative. I highly doubt any QB that ever played the game would have won in his place though.

Interesting ESPN article about Mahomes & his self-analysis post SB LV is pretty spot on in my humble opinion...

Not just blaming Mahomes, but you can't sit and say how good he is when hardman and hill take his jet sweep "passes" 50 yards and not give him some blame for last night.

You get my point. Mahomes gets a lot of love when Hill and Kelce are balling out for him. Andy scheming wide open receivers. I don't care how bad the oline is or how bad the scheme was. Not scoring a TD when you got to their 30 6 times is unacceptable for someone as talented as PM15.

Was the L just on him? Absolutely not... But he is the QB of the team with the best offense in football and they didn't score a TD in the SB. He deserves some blame.

I have three at BGS right now in addition to the one below. I'll probably send at least one to PWCC when they return. My 2021 resolution is to not be a hoarder.
