I loved this movie. Awesome "creature" flick.

The source of the evil, such as it is, is different in "Relic" than it is in "Hereditary", but that's likely a wise decision. I can't imagine anyone who didn't like "Hereditary" would enjoy "Relic".

Watched Dark Skies on Netflix. Not a bad "alien" horror movie.

Also watched Lodgers a couple nights ago. Weird movie with a WTF ending.

Watching "Dead Silence" (Unrated version) tonight. Seen it before but never the unrated version. A whopping 2 extra minutes. The movie isn't great, but it has a creepy factor of about 10.

Watched "Johnny Gruesome" last night. The second word in the title pretty much sums up the movie.

Directed, produced and starring

It was suppose to release in April. Huge SAW fan here so I'd give it a chance

I saw the first one. Kinda seemed more like "Gore Porn" instead of horror. Still, for the genre, it wasn't all that bad.

Watched Invisible Man last night.

Not bad overall. Tons of potential and decent execution. I understand why a lot of critics loved it—the invisible man is terrifyingly perfect for a story about domestic abuse—but I feel like their eagerness to champion a #metoo story overlooks a lot major plot holes that really hold the movie back.

So hopefully non-spoiler observations:

- I get why they titled it "The Invisible Man", but honestly the first hour would have been 10x more suspenseful as an "is she crazy / is there a ghost" mystery rather than telling the viewer right off the bat that the guy is invisible.

- The main character comes across all the evidence she could ever want and just......forgets about it?

- The movie suffers from continuity error on the level of: A character slices their wrist in an attempted suicide and then gets dragged facedown through a white tile hallway leaving absolutely no blood. Even as they wrestle with another person only second after plunging a blade into their wrist and pulling it back towards their elbow—no blood is seen anywhere and the character feels no ill effects.

That was our second movie of last night's double feature.

(It was the wife's birthday and she wanted sushi and scary movies)

The repeated cuts to the dollhouse gave me serious Hereditary vibes. I felt like that idea had already been done. I did think that the movie was better off without the twist. They should have kept the initial fear going to the end.

Watched "Becky' and "The Hunt" this weekend. Neither one was good. Both are completely forgettable.

I watched both of them and liked them both. Neither was amazing but to me both were definitely watchable.

Watching “The Rental” right now. Not bad overall. My biggest complaint is that the script/dialogue paints the property caretaker as a racist (repeatedly).........but all of the racial tension is focused on actress Sheila Vand, an Iranian but totally white-passing female.

I actually asked my wife “They keep calling him a racist, but do they mean sexist or maybe anti-Semitic?” I had to look up Sheila Vand to find out that she was Iranian. Nothing about her complexion onscreen makes it obvious that the creepy old guy is racist.

It’s a great script overall. Just a weird casting choice.

I actually really liked it. I also haven’t watched a movie like that before. I’m sure if you’ve seen something like that before it isn’t original.

If you liked the vibe and general story of The Lodge, you'd probably enjoy The Others from 2001 starring Nichole Kidman. A very similar story, but it goes the opposite direction with the twist.

You might also like The Orphanage from 2007. It also plays with that "are they dead or alive?" storytelling. It's a Spanish film and I know most people hate subtitles, but it pulls off some great horror before ending with one of the happiest/saddest scenes I've ever seen.
