You missed my point entirely. My point was that people wouldn't even drive from LA to Orange country to see the greatest baseball player in the world.

I'm not even a Jays fan, I just think that a bunch of people living in California probably have a significantly worse idea of the pulse of the team and city vs say someone who lives in that city and whose entire friend group are massive jays fans |

okay i misunderstood what you were referring to
so how do I have blinders on? Because I think your take on Toronto and the Jays in inaccurate? The Jays are insanely popular in Toronto and Ontario, and less so but still very popular in Canada. Not sure why anyone would suggest otherwise. kinda weird to tell me to take my canada bias off when you live in LA. sort of the same thing no? |

Will Ohtani be given a throne to sit on in Toronto like in Game of Thrones, but with bats instead of swords?

Most LA residents are Dodgers fans...unless the Angels are playing the Dodgers (and for a while there the Astros), they wouldn't drive an hour in traffic and spend money on the Angels when their team is in 1st place. Dodger tickets are expensive enough. Vice versa I wouldn't risk life and limb to go Chavez Ravine even if the Mick was playing. |

Mr Ohtani likes his ballpark ambient temperature at precisely 70 degrees. He also requires a massage from firm-but-gentle hands before every at-bat. Also, he wants to change the ball park wifi password so he can control who has access to it -- he doesn't trust that it will be secure.

whatever man this is highly semantic given what we are talking about RE geography
you're telling me to take my canada bias off while also living in SoCal. you are just as biased as i am RE Ohtani signing in Toronto Vs SoCal |

And it's not even true anyways. Ohtani could win the WS next year in Toronto and he'd still be second fiddle to the Leafs 3rd line. It's clear most of this thread does not understand Toronto sports culture

Ohtani's appeal is global. If he wins the ws next year he's an even bigger star. It really does not matter how much the local market cares.

All of this acting like people know what Ohtani wants is hilarious to me. "He wants to win", "he wants global marketing", "he wants to have the freedom to play how he wants". Nobody knows. That's the point of all of this and why there's so much speculation about everything. Shohei's said so little about anything and that's part of the reason this is such a spectacle. You can act like you know what he's looking for, but only he does

BJs are in a much better position than the Angels and the Dodgers rotation is extremely suspect. I don't think Ohtani puts the Jays over the top, but if Yamamoto is also in Toronto next year...

Are you aware of the Angel's roster? The Jays are way better. They've averaged 90 wins the last three years. Yes its the same division as the Yankees, but that's no worse than being in the same division as Tex and Hou. Dodgers would be automatic playoffs each year, but the Jays are not bad at all.

Will he run for Prime Minister of Canada, or won't he? His poll numbers are strong and he's established a potent alliance with multiple key parties. |
