If they can replace him for less $$, and still have the same revenue, then why wouldn't they? What if they could have more revenue because the $$ stretch further and they win a few more games?

There are 162 games... or 81 wins for an "average" team... Mookie's 7.5 wins add 9.2% more wins than if the team was staffed with a benchwarmer. [this also requires understanding that WAR is above a benchwarmer]

"get" is always the tough question, as they may be controlled by other teams, but you get the point (I hope) that the "market price" for a 5 WAR player is in the $20-25MM range right now.

This is what good GMs do... they make this tradeoff question (and not just now, also for the future through the farm system).

If the marginal $10MM they could pay Betts is worth less than putting that $10MM elsewhere, they will put it elsewhere.

How much money does he need to stay in Boston? He may be better off somewhere else.

Thought you'd enjoy Fangraphs doing the work I was too lazy to do in response to your points. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-red-...-mookie-betts/

They show the math is better to keep Betts, due to the key point you made that they don't believe you can trade for the players who are worth more per $$ spent. Unfortunately the market is too illiquid.

BOOM! @pewe is trashed

This is prime time for NeedsChapmans to stock up on Betts if he is still massively collecting him

I'm jumping in on some Update stuff. What were the BC Base worth at the beginning of the year? And does anyone know the reason why there hasn't been a non-Panini auto card since 2014?

2015 Topps Opening Day Spring Fever *

But yes. I’m still hoping for a nice Triple Threads or Topps Dynasty Mookie autograph patch in the future.

Anyone have an idea of the print run for 2014 Chrome Update? I’m just now noticing that the pop report between BGS and PSA is only 650 for his rookie

Based off the past couple years, he's due to have another great season, but we will see lol

What's the deal with the 2014 Stadium Club Foilboard /25? Two listed on Ebay over 900, no recent sale comps. Was very surprised to anything from that set valued so high

I LOVE stadium club, but that is silly

Even my Acuna auto foil #/10 is at best $400-500

No OBO either. I thought it might've been some special card for Mookie that you wouldn't know is so valuable at first glance, kind of like that 2016 Trout SSP that's worth over $1500. The parallels in that set look very tough to grade, almost nothing on the pop report.

I ran the math for the Chrome Update print run and it's about 10,000 base.

Ya, no

Stadium Club has a fan base, but not enough to make it worth so much... I personally wouldn't want to spend more than $150-200 for one

I purchased rainbow foils for other hot rookies, and never even spent that much... but for Betts, as I like him, I'd stretch

As much as I wanted to start a hoard of Stadium Club rookies, it's impossible to justify spending $15-$20 on base when I was just able get a Gold(print run ~85) for $62 and a Rainbow Foil for $37(print run ~250)

I know on Topps Bunt (digital app) there hadn't been a Mookie signature card until this year because they didn't have his signature rights. Apparently those are different than likeness. But if they had some weird issue with his signature for digital rights then I imagine he wasn't onboard signing cards for them physically, either.

emphasizes the point that we seem to only talk about hot rookies, or players in the MVP hunt. He was neither, so was ignored. So many amazing players who get limited air time because of this.

and perhaps if/when some major milestone or trade is brewing (Betts has been discussed a lot in other threads re: the latter)

Based off his on/off year trend, this would be his on year lol

2015 Topps Opening Day is his last Topps signature.

I mean, on a bWAR and fWAR basis, it's not like he didn't have a great year last year.

A 6.6 WAR season being considered an off year is basically Trout level expectations

If you want probably the most sure bet HOF player who hasn't already amassed the stats, I'd have a hard time ranking someone ahead of him. Sounds like the kind of guy to amass a collection of.
