Because some people are chasing the hobby exclusives (gala, titanium draft position, vanguard platinum) and/or parallels.

It's the same reason (probably people) why Prizm/Spectra hobby boxes are selling 1.2-2.5k per (when the average ROI is nowhere close).

I actually have a pretty good deal worked out with them. They buy a ton of my cards I otherwise wouldn’t be able to sell, or cards that wouldn’t be worth my time to photograph, list, and ship out to buyers. Usually I have a bunch of stuff to bring in when I go there, so at the end of the day I typically have enough to trade in to get my boxes for free or next to nothing. Don’t make excuses for buying a $900 box...you could put 1 zion and 1 Ja in a box and make all the cards nice and shiny and people will still buy

Or wait for retail

Sadly the store by me doesn't do any of that. The only thing that can be relied upon is they will add at least 10-20% to the market price for Chronicles hobby when they start breaking their boxes.

No it’s tonight nationwide at 6 pm est...Walmart and target both got together for the big release. You can lineup inside and wait in line just like waiting for a new PlayStation console release. They will hand you a wristband and when you get to the front of the line you get to choose what you like. Limited amount of wristbands though per store

If the Zions are Threads, Playoff, Panini, and Luminance - it's still a bad box. Those all at a PSA 10 still doesn't get your money back. If they are Crusade, Phoenix, Illusions, and Flux - then it's a solid box. Still could pull the same out of a blaster though.

My LCS sells most of their singles online, they have a huge eBay store, so that’s why they take all the cards I bring in. If they were just trying to re-sell my stuff in-store, that would never work.

Lol, and I remember when I only bought 1 prizm fat pack box at $150 off eBay in mid-December because “I could always get another next week with so many listings at 150-160”.
