I believe it's motivation. He might actually be so good, he's content being average right now. But yes, Ohtani in NY would be nuts.

There is a 0% chance Ohtani goes to the Yankees. It was well known when he came to the MLB that he wouldn't play for any NY team

If he doesn’t have to play for a team on the left coast, and the Braves actually spent money on big free agents, I would love to see him sign here. Could they be stopped?

Here's a thought. Assuming Yankees plan on going hard after Ohtani, would he be less likely to sign with a team in a rebuild with a new regime? Perhaps this is being considered in the decision making.

The Yankees are basically the Angels but they play 4-5 more games per season

Not an opinion. It was widely reported on at the time.
Additionally, Ohtani also cares about money less than probably any player on the planet. He gave up well over $100 million when he came over because he wanted to start playing in the MLB in 2018. If he waited another two years, he would've gone straight into free agency where he was getting a $200+ million contract. When he came to the MLB, he was treated like a drafted player, with pre-arb and arb for the first 6 years. He made less than $700k each year for the first 3 years he was in the league. |

Another thing to consider is Ohtani going into season #7 next year with 2 TJS behind him if he indeed goes that route this time also. He's likely not playing another 10 years and at some point you know winning a Championship becomes priority and if it's not what is the point of playing ? The Angels aren't winning a WS in probably the next 25 yrs the way that organization is ran. The only feasible teams that can offer that are the Yankees, Dodgers, and Braves. Braves make the most sense to me they are young and have the bulk of their guys locked up long term, Yankees are a mess but they have some decent prospects that could turn it around fairly quick under the right regime, Dodgers are good but they are old and at some point it's going to catch up with them.
Maybe I'm missing something but other than those 3 teams I don't see any other teams that are constantly going to be in the hunt for a deep playoff push. Some might say Houston but even with their record this year they have taken a step back from the last 3-4 yrs. Last edited by Jolten Joe; 08-28-2023 at 11:27 PM. |

I'd sign with the Mariners or Giants if I were Ohtani.

Baseball you don't need titles to be all-time greats. Why do you guys keep bringing this up? Baseball is not like Basketball or Football in that regard. He's on my Mount Rushmore of the greatest baseball players of all-time. All the negatve talk is guys who missed the boat easy to spot them! Lmfao
