Man you’re not kidding. Imagine that in a PMG green or gold…simply iconic. Or even the other parallels like seismic gold or red prism.

In an otherwise awesome set, two things UD missed: including PMGs for the battle spectra, and not including the checklist (I want a purple crystal or seismic gold checklist dang nab it). Well also the Apoc/Warlock error issue, and the deleted cards from the OG set.

UD saved me a lot of money by not making the red PMG, would have been a perfect card. Fingers crossed they get the license back at some point and make it happen.

Picked up this cool Morbius plate the other day….

Gonna send it to the slab factory. Debating on PSA for the red label (no grade) or CGC for the grade. I think magenta plates really pop in the red label but turnaround time is like twice as long.

I always think the black labels make the cards stand out more, but haven’t seen a plate yet.

I think they’re nice, but one issue I have is the damage so many have on the back. Look at this Gambit metallurgy I have…there are gashes out of the back, tons of chipping, two long roller marks that go across the whole card- all from the factory of course. But when they don’t have this issue…I agree they’re super nice hits!

I had sent one in to UD that looked similar to be replaced and was a little surprised UD actually replaced it with the same, undamaged, card.

It's ..something.. that UD's production is so bad at times.

Well, at least they replaced your card. UD was firmly unwilling to replace PMG cards.

Yea I can reiterate my story here on that- to show how ridiculous UD treated a longtime customer who has given them who knows how much from epack spending etc, over the years.

I posted that damaged Sauron red PMG I i got from a break way above upthread. Card was utterly damaged- worse than that Gambit, it has a huge ridge down the whole card and was almost bent in half. I get UD is super particular about needing a receipt, from a diamond retailer and all that. But this card was hit live on break, host clearly showing the damaged card out of the factory sealed case/box/pack. One could argue that’s actually better evidence than someone just sending one in with a receipt- who says that person couldn’t, in an untaped opening, just damage a card on their own, hoping for a generous UD replacement which has known to happen?

In my case UD had clear evidence a card was damaged right from their factory. Serial numbered card so you know it’s that one. Also have the empty box and pack it came from (breaker sent me it). A decent company here would acknowledge this, and make that right for a customer- the mere $100 or whatever the card was worth. They did not…completely refused, despite my multiple emails with pics and break video documentation. Thats the note upper deck wanted to go out on with this customer, I suppose, being stingy on a $100 card. Oh well…love the set, just not the way UD does things…but a moot point since they no longer have the marvel license.

Upper Deck can’t replace your pmg. They replaced the metallurgy with the same card which they resurfaced and reprinted the back of the card that was sent in. In the case of your pmg they would have to produce a new card which violates copyright. The day they lost the license they lost the ability to produce it again.

Wait how do you know they resurfaced or reprinted the card- that sounds kinda unlikely. I imagined for these damaged cards they just hold back a group of replacement cards that never made it into packs. Like they probably had one of that same metallurgy being held for replacements.

Also I meant they didn’t replace it even with another card of equivalent value/or even another Sauron PMG red (different serial #).

UD has sent numbered cards as replacement I know that for sure- not for me- I never have had UD replace anything after all these years (yet they still deny that one instance of $100 card). But I’ve seen other people get numbered hits as replacements. So it would appear UD is just holding back some cards from the product, to be used as replacements, I would think

Are you sure about that? Check this Quicksilver card I got from a trade/purchase. I don't think all PMG made were inserted into packs, and even if they don't have any spare PMG, they can replace it with cards of similar value.

They can replace PMG's. It just won't be the same serial number. They don't actually re-print cards...they open a certain percentage of EVERY set for QA/replacements. No idea where you're coming up with them re-printing anything...or fixing anything

I believe they have a policy where they don't replace damaged PMGs because they are known for being "condition sensitive."

They may send someone a spare they have sitting around as a replacement if they have it, but theres zero chance of getting the same PMG back if you send it in as damaged and they don't have an extra laying around. Tried it with a green PMG out of Spider-man Metal and got told to pound sand. They didnt even offer to send anything similar in value. Only response I got back was "Nope, PMGs are condition sensitive it is what it is."

Sure they will. Maybe it depends who you manage to talk to...suspect I'll leave it at that. I've gotten PMGs replaced. I also know for a fact that they have them from opening a certain percentage of said product. Maybe most are just given as replacements for other cards...but they have them.

I get what you're saying though. They do come damaged quit often and probably have a policy to not replace them in general. Either way, they aren't "remaking" cards or reprinting cards, which is what was said(not by you)

There's no way the repaired the card I sent in.

I was fortunate they had extras on hand.

Yeah, that Quicksilver was sent to a costumer as a replacement.

They sent a couple pink lasers with the metallurgy, all had the UD sticker.

I mean if you "know" someone or get to talk to the right person than awesome. Im just going off what I was told. The email I've attached straight up said it was a policy from upper management but who knows. Maybe they were just blowing me off.

The picture sucks that I linked but all it says is that they can't create any customer support tickets for PMG replacements, as it's a policy set by upper management.

Haha, all good. I can't make heads or tails of who that is signed by, but it doesn't look like anyone I've dealt with lately...

I suspect I should have put at asterisks in front of my first reply to you. I got a blue & red PMG from FUSM replaced in 2018(with the exact same card, different serials). Did I know people who worked at UD at that point? Yup. Did I mention that? Nope. It could be as simple as they saw I had personally opened over 100 cases of FUSM by myself... Or it could be that the policy changed over the years... Or it could be that they're being difficult with you(not sure why that'd be the case). I suspect it's because policy changed.

My last few experiences with UD CS have been a mixed bag. About a year ago(ish), I got a replacement that was WELL in excess of the value of the card I sent in. Cut forward to just a month ago and I feel like I got hosed badly by their CS. Things change, I suppose is the answer to all these different things happening. Carlin being gone isn't a good thing, IMO.

I have one card left there...and it'll be something that'll have to get dealt with via CS. We'll see how that goes. My last experience was bad enough that I'm almost positive I'll be shutting down all my UD accounts, but we'll see what ends up happening with it.

Sorry you got denied. Seems like an odd stance for a company to take. "We know we're going to be making cards in horrible condition and our solution is to just tell people to deal with it". Odd. I'd put money that this changed in maybe 2020 when all the metal type sets started coming out(sports and non-sports). I know there were 2015/16 and several other hockey metal sets with PMG's, but they REALLY started pumping them out in 2020 with the non-sport/sport/entertainment type(MJ's is sweatsuits etc.).

If they have “extras” then they can send those. They just can’t produce any more. It was my innocent thought that they actually put all of the product in their product, but alas I am exposed yet again to the dark side of capitalism.

While money has at least partially ruined part(s) of the hobby, them opening product 100% has nothing to do with that. They open a certain percentage of EVERY product to do quality assurance check on the cards & for replacements. UD, Topps(Fanatics), Panini and I'd assume even smaller companies like Cryptzoic etc. do it and they have for decades. It has nothing to do with money.

They would have to open enough to have a replacement for most cards. I want to be that guy; the quality control employee that gets paid to open and inspect their product.

I don’t think the intent is to open to have replacement cards. Rather they open a case or two to see if the box/case breaks are what is advertised. And then the contents of that test could potentially be used as replacements for damages.

The only thing I wonder is….who the heck is opening the cases to make sure the quality is there. We see metallurgies with gashed and chipped backs, one every 10 parallel cards or so with those roller marks and indents that’ll grade CGC 5, Apoc/Warlock wrong back error, the split open pack wrappers in blaster boxes, and of course the strange PMG design with the white borders.

Also with this set …with all the replacement hits I’ve seen in those UD sticker holders- PMGs, golds, red prisms, metallurgy, etc….i wonder at the sheer amount of product UD had to open…I would estimate quite a bit more than 2 cases since hits like PMGs are long odds hits in this. And imagine how many people are sending in for those damage replacements.
