You have to add-in the happiness it brings New Orleans to stick it to the city of Los Angeles (Saints should have been in Super Bowl), Klutch (tampering), and AD (it's fine if you don't want to re-sign there, but you still have a year and a half on your contract, man).

If you are looking at things only "objectively" (i.e., players and picks), then you are missing a big part of the equation.
Hahahahahaha, fair enough.

It's also just a made up "offer" that has no basis in reality.

Not a bad haul for the Lakers, especially with the way Smart has emerged on the offensive end this year. Probably just an educated guess though.

10x LOL, you are giving him way too much credit and really devaluing ingram, kuzma, and ball. Kuzma has been better this season than tatum so all you are really doing is projecting, which is a guess. You think Tatum will be better, he isnt actually better.

Kuzma has not been better than Tatum this year just because he's averaging 2 more points. That 30% 3 pt percentage and completely inconsistent play has been brutal for the Lakers.

You can't trade Horford unless he opts in.

Horford - Practically done
Smart - Meh
Tatum - Could be good
Robert Williams - Out of the league in 3 years and probably doesn't show up (can't find NO)

meh...
Horford opts in because he's getting paid twice of what he would get paid in free agency.

Smart is having a career year...but it's the kind of player of you like on a good team but hate on a bad one. Unless they flip him, I don't see much value there.

I think Williams is a decent prospect but he should be worth maybe a late 1st.

It all comes down to Tatum and the picks. If the Grizzlies pick is not there, it's an easy pass IMO.

Ingram is no slouch either.
Tatum was given reigns as the clear cut number 2 with Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward being relegated to the bench. He only has 2 ball dominant guys on his team in Kyrie and Rozier
Ingram has ball dominant players in Rondo, Ball, Lance and LeBron. 3 of which he’s still adjusting to. Not to mention competing with Kuzma who is better suited to play along the ball hounds as he’s a better spot up jump shooter when they create. That’s not Ingram’s game.
That being said. My numbers may be slightly off. But when Ingram is given the clear number two role, isn’t he averaging something like 19-21PPG on 54% shooting? Or close to. Not to mention he just turned 21.

Not saying Tatum is or won’t be better. I’ve just seen some unfair comparisons. One has been called a role player and a bum. The other a transcendent player to replace AD. Not sure the gap is that great. Especially when adding all the other pieces LA offered.

If that's what NO gets, some people (lebron fans) are going to be eating some words lol. I'd be shocked though if that's what the deal would be.
If Boston is willing to give that for a 1 year rental on AD, good for them. AD has said he won't resign with them. He will then be able to choose were he wants to go. The Celtics will have a 1 year window to win and then suck for years.

to be fair they are both wildly inconsistent on a game to game basis...but Tatum has been more efficient and can shoot better...i still dont think its some great gap between him and all the laker guys...

He hasn't been anywhere near as inconsistent as Kuzma. He's better on the defensive end, better 3 pt shooter, higher PER, higher WS, better offensive and defensive ratings. Pretty much all the advanced metrics shows Tatum, as a 20 year old, playing better overall basketball than Kuzma. Tatum's biggest weakness right now is he thinks he's Kobe and takes way way too many mid range low percentage jump shots.

Although AD would be completely free to leave Boston after a 1 year rental, he would be potentially leaving money on the table. It might not sound like a lot, but he would basically be taking the path to getting the least amount of money on his next contract (and putting him at risk if he has a big injury, which is possible, since the guy is frequently injured). He's already said he doesn't care about the supermax, but if he walks away from his bird rights too, that's leaving a lot of money on the table (which is his choice, but still $$$).

Normally I would agree but teams are clearing their books HEAVILY right now. Horford would be a Top-15 FA this summer with the potential to get a multi year deal at an inflated number because teams will have the money and will miss out on the Top-5 FAs (similar to the 2016 off season).

Currently 1/3 of the league is projected to be able to offer Horford the $30M he is able to opt into. That number could grow bigger today.

-Opt out and take a multi-year deal while teams have boatloads of money at 33 years of age.
-Opt in and take the $30M now and try to get a deal in 2020 at 34 years of age.

Offensively I think Kuzma and Ingram have been good, lack of efficiency has hurt them a bit. The problem is they are both fairly useless on the other end.

Lack of efficiency is the worst part. Kuzma is shooting 30% from 3. He is supposed to be the go to 3 point shooter on the team. It's killing the Lakers. Ingram has stepped up his game the last two weeks for sure. If he keeps that up he'd be good. I have faith in Kuzma, but the way they have played this year, I can see why the Pels would hold out for Tatum.

As a C's fan I would not make this deal especially when there is no guarantee that AD will resign.
If Kyrie leaves,Tatum can easily average 25ppg as the #1 guy on the Celtics. Smart & Horford are probably both going to make one of the All-Defense teams this season and Williams shot blocking potential could possibly land him there as well someday. I'm assuming the three firsts will be the three best picks Ainge owns and I'd honestly rather see him keep building thru the draft with them over trading for a rental.
I'm as big a fan of Anthony Davis that there is but I'd rather not see Ainge hand over a package of players & picks like that for a guy who does not want to play here in Boston.
I doubt it happens but I'm really hoping Magic caves in by adding another pick or two to their offer and NO agrees to a deal in the next few hours which would prevent Ainge from handing over the farm in the offseason.

If the Celtics do offer that trade where they give up Smart and Horford doesn't that clear enough cap space for them to sign another max free agent? Could it be all timing again - make the trade sign another FA then you can go over the cap to resign Kyrie or once the trade is complete does having Hayward and AD put them out of getting another max contract?

On a completely different note can you imagine if the Lakers had drafted Tatum instead of Ball - they probably wouldn't have dumped Russell and they would have Tatum/Russell to trade for AD right now.

Good catch, NO would be getting back close to double the salary going out which would be great for a Boston standpoint but likely not happen. NO would have to add more salary to make it work.

If the Lakers had Tatum and Russell, with Russell playing how he is now, they would have no need for AD. Well not no need, but not nearly as much.

But if NO is way under the cap which they could be if they go full on rebuild and trade Holiday and Randle today then renounce their rights to Morris, Smith, and Stanley Johnson in the offseason then don't the salaries not have to match can't they take on more than they are sending out?

Need is irrelevant when dealing with Lebron's wants

like 10 guys in the whole league avg 25ppg...i mean the hype on tatum is strong...apparently once he gets in the right situation as the alpha he is just gonna be the MVP over and over at this rate...

you have guys like Booker/Kemba/Beal who are the #1 options on bad teams...who are (atleast to me) much better offensive players...these guys dont drop 25ppg but Tatum will do that "easily"

He was Boston's alpha as a rookie in the playoffs and put up 20 or more in 10 of his 19 games. He definitely picked up a few bad habits from Kobe in the offseason but anyone watching him on a nightly basis can see that he's been taking it to the hoop much more than he was earlier in the season.
Maybe easily was too strong a word but without Kyrie & Morris(who is a blackhole on offense if he gets the ball) he'd have the freedom to take more shots. He's also an 86% FT shooter so getting to the line a few more times a game would only add to his ppg average.

He's 20 years old. You talk about him like he's 27. Which is why people think he's so valuable.
