The reason I ask is because the whole thing is cyclical.

He hits better in the seasons where he also pitches. His “down” offensive years were when he wasn’t pitching. He didn’t pitch due to TJ surgery. Was the surgery cause by him hitting or playing OF or DH-ing? No - it was due to him pitching.

So - any team wanting to sign him long-term (10 years) has to weigh that pitching more = hitting better, but pitching = injury = not hitting as well.

I’m not being critical of the man - he’s incredible both ways.

It’s just that there is an argument to be made on both sides re: health if you are looking for a good long-term ROI as an owner/GM.

Give him $550M over 10 years. Fine - but here are your choices that will be questioned by pundits in retrospect:

(1) You knew that he hits better when you let him pitch - why didn’t you?
(2) You knew that pitching can injure him, and he doesn’t hit as well when he can’t pitch - why did you let him pitch?

I’m not being argumentative with anyone or in any way being critical of this man’s unique and amazing skill set, but I’m asking if any GM owner has asked themselves this question.

That's like saying what are you going to do with your lottery winnings after you buy the ticket and win.

Also helps that I search multiple times a day for many saved searches and have been looking almost exclusively at Ohtani cards for the last couple years so I can tell pretty quickly if I need to jump on a BIN before looking around for comps and missing out. Do your Market research!!
Same! I found some auctions that ended within 1-2 hours of each other, and was able to catch a deal 15% below comps, simply because buyers were either spooked at the low number of bids/price, or just plain luck. A coulple other times people just priced things way too low and I jumped on it. I buy for PC so it's nice to pick stuff up on the cheap.

What's the story behind the Topps Complete Set Chrome Refractor batting variation? Is it considered a parallel of the Topps set, since it's numbered #700?

i am 99% sure they were only in the WalMart Green Cube Factory Sets.

i would not consider them a parallel of the Rookie Card, due to image change

Yep, the square blue box set. Those chromies are actually pretty tough to gem due to them being on the end and susceptible to denting. Man, 2018 was such a golden year.

I'm putting together the #700 rainbow (other than clear and platinum) and don't personally consider the complete set chrome refractor as part of it.

I have however been contemplating picking up the #700 Babe Ruth image variation.

I think the Ruth variation would be a cool addition to the rest.

I hear you, but forget it's retail complete set for just one second and look. You need one.

Yeah I agree. That being said, it'll likely be the absolute last one I pick up.

Still missing purple, foilboard, vintage, negative, black.

I'm also missing the All Star game stamp version but I already have the complete set #5 insert one in a PSA 10 and to me its the same damn card so I'm unsure I'll ever pick up the #700.

Oh dear, I forgot there were colors of this one too.... yeah I'm just gonna continue ignoring its status in the rainbow to keep myself sane.
