Just picked up Hall of Famer/Cleveland Indians Earl Averill 1933 Goudey in a PSA 7. He joins my 1952 Topps Bob Feller in the same grade. Interestingly, they played together for a good while.

Whew, some incredible pickups. I really dig that '52 Topps Feller in particular. There's not much out there that's more impressive than a well-centered '52 Topps HOFer in that kind of condition.

Anyway, wanted to do a little photo expose on my '71 Topps slabs. I really like collecting PSA '71s because the set is so tampered with and it's one of those issues where it's extremely difficult to find raw cards that would grade PSA 6 or higher, so a nice PSA6 slab can be had for a reasonable price and look pretty darn great.

Here's the 18 slabs I've picked up so far. I have a few blue-chippers like Clemente, Mays and Nolan Ryan, but I'm also focusing on semi-stars and high #s with imagery that I like:

Now to a few of my favorites. You can see why they called him The Hawk:

Really sweet Matty Alou high # right here. I think it's cool how it says "Cards."

I am lucky enough to own every Yaz topps card and I will say that his '71 issue has always stood out. There's no other card in the Yaz run like it. Not even close. This guy played his ass off.

Lastly, this Bobby Murcer high(er) #. This card was stuck in Sioux Falls, SD for over 2 weeks in January. I was beginning to think it was a lost cause but it finally made its way to the east coast. Bobby Murcer was one of the top 10 or 15 players in baseball, arguably in the late 60s/early 70s. This is a classic card with those pennants in the background. Can't stand the Yankees but I do like owning Yankee baseball cards.

So most would say that's why the 7 then, but if you look through the PSA archives the only well centered Averill Goudey I could find is the PSA 9 that went for over $11,000 in 2019. Some of the 8s seemed the same. Anyways, imagine the 9 in today's market. This card just doesn't lend itself to great centering. Of course, the 52 Topps series is a legend down the line, whereas the 33 Goudey is probably mostly just thought of as the Foxx/Ruth/Gehrig set.

Well that's gotta be the nicest 2.5 I've ever seen.

Congrats wharfrat! Timely purchase and an awesome looking card. Looks like a tough grade but I'm guessing you paid a bit less for it than what a 2.5 with great eye appeal is currently selling for.

Thanks guys. Its has a white corner on the back and slight surface scratches/indentations front lower left that is visible when you tilt the card.

The Averill always kind of looks blurry or double printed even in high grade cards. I wonder why?

I took another photo closer up. The soft pencil on the edges appears to lie above the main image when I look super up close. Almost as though they tried to make the image pop out of the card in 3D.

Took my son to the Jacksonville Sports Cards & Collectibles Show today. It was a packed house! Lots of folks all different ages. Plenty of newer stuff, vintage, pokemon, autos, etc... I came home with this beauty:

ALL of this is GREAT stuff! I hope this thread never dies!

Sorry that I don't have a scanner (someone please recommend one for me that would easily adapt to an Acer Nitro 5 laptop, thanks!):

You’ve got some nice cards there. IMO, the best scanner for cards is the Epson v600. If you don’t get that one, make sure it’s a CCD scanner and not a CIS scanner. CIS scanners have no depth of field and scans of your graded cards will be blurry!

Sweet cards everyone.

To the OP above. There is a large scanner thread in here somewhere that a member started that is full or excellent info/reviews as well as instructions on how to get the best scans using the recommended one.
Maybe someone can post it as I am not sure where it is located?

Picked up my first 2 Sandy Koufax cards recently. The 1956 White Back is shown below. Also purchased a 1963 Fleer PSA 5 in the B/S/T section here a week or two ago but do not have the pic
