Watching the Dodgers/Red Sox final innings. It is amazing how a manager takes out a pitcher who is loose & dominating through almost 7 innings, Rich Hill of Dodgers, and brings in nervous reliever(s) who get shellacked. 4 run lead gone. Managers do it all the time, big mistake!

As far as musicians, Dick Dale was forced to perform to survive. A few grand for 500 autos probably sounds awesome. Brian’s Wilson is a HUGE name and is still performing despite barely being able to walk. Think he couldn’t use a few dollars?

Point being that there’s names available that would boost the product. A bunch of no names is a slap in the face to collectors of the product.
The real point is that it's all speculation and none of us knows how difficult or expensive it is to get anyone to sign.

How in an age where HBO TV series are as hot as they have ever been can you not get some actors who sign regularly but you don't see a ton on sports cards and then work down through other sports and industries to get a real solid auto checklist.

Emelia Clark SP
Kit Harrington SP

Evan Rachel Wood

Im just pulling names from the top of my head, but Topps does kinda phone it in on this.....too many E listers the past 3-4 years.
The bigger the name, the more they charge to sign. The budget to produce a product is not infinite. (And Ginter won't have the budget of, say, Transcendent.)

Huge Ginter fan since 2006

But topps is lazy with this imo

Look at little company like leaf and auto lineup they put out with there products

Leaf checklist kicks ginters ass

To be honest ud also does a better job with Goodwin

The only reason Transcendent has a big budget is because of the party. The players on the transcendent checklist are still signing cards in every other product, so they are not exclusive to transcendent. Even the cuts, same cuts can be found elsewhere.

I rather pay more for a quality checklist

I've opened 5 cases of A&G each year - this year I am passing. The distributor pricing - never mind the retail/secondary market is just too high to justify it. I guess I'll just stick to singles

Not everything needs to be chrome, many collectors still LOVE the retro type cardboard products. The GQ chrome toppers were fine, pushing it a bit, but the last thing we need in "retro" sets is chrome. Plenty of chrome stuff already out there, let's not muddy the waters further.

For the first time ever I am opening Goodwin Champions this year and eliminating A&G from my break list. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tiger Woods, Luka Doncic, and probably some combination of LBJ and/or Jordan already have me way more interested in UD's offering, AND the animal patches are back. I wouldn't expect to make much money on either product but I'm really starting to think Goodwin will produce a higher return.

No, most are on-card but some of the subsets may be sticker. I know the patch autos are on-card and base autos are on card. There are some really rare subsets that could be sticker possibly.

It’s not released yet, throughout social media people have posted that they have signed for A&G

Yeah, my question was kind of rhetorical. Last year there were 41 non-baseball autograph subjects. It looks like people are judging the checklist based on a handful of social media posts, as though Topps released the BEST names on the list.

Yes but in reality 2-3 of the posted ones will sell for quality money

So we've already seen 2-3 quality autos with another 30+ to go that we don't even know about yet.

I think we're agreeing here. It's funny to see people ripping the "auto checklist" and abandoning A&G for Leaf and Goodwin with ~20% of the checklist even known.

.

My decision had little to do with the autos. I always enjoyed the mystique and oddities of A&G and those have gotten less and less over the years, whereas Goodwin continues to incorporate those and even add more to it. A&G hasn't been profitable for me in several years and bigger breakers I talk to assume a loss now when they open it. At the least I felt I could switch it up to something more fun and roll the dice. If I am going to lose money I might as well have fun doing it.
