With the caveat that I love love LOVE Ohtani but don't buy any of his stuff, it feels like 2023 WBC Ohtani stuff could ultimately become his "peak" stuff. Not that any single WBC item will eclipse one of his big RC Supers, but generally speaking. Collecting will only continue to get bigger worldwide, and I think the Japanese/rest of world (as an entity against your American entity bidder) are and will continue to be all over this stuff because it showcased Ohtani at what will probably be the peak of his powers on both sides of the game, with a victory for Japan, with an unbelievable "finish him" storyline of best v. best / teammates / all on the line / etc.

Is it my imagination...Ohtani has one of his worst outings as a pitcher (and just falls short of a cycle) since I can remember (the worst was that game against the Yankees a year or two ago) and the prices of his cards seemed to actually go up.

Yeah, someone popped the base TC Auto PSA 10 for 9K just now. Other big sales too. It's trending up.

As you know I am a low to mid end collector that focuses on non-auto SP and SSP's (mainly trying to find deals on RC with PR of 5k or less), but I was looking at the sold listings today and even base cards have been jumping up by a good amount.

It seems that way! Maybe hobbyist are finally getting that Ohtani has the potential to be considered at top 10 player off all time one day. I have actually paused my buying due to the price increase (but am always looking for deals) and plan to go shopping again this off season. Still buying the other guys I collect (Tatis, Acuna, Soto, Franco, Rodriguez, Vladdy jr.).

This is the way. Sell the cards you don’t want and then buy some nice Ohtani cards especially during big moments like after WBC. Rinse and repeat 😀
