well our mortgage payment is $960 with escrow in our county. I don't think we would be able to get anything decent in WPB for under 2k.

How much planning is she able to do during that 30-45 minutes a day? Or how much of that planning time is she actually without kids or not in a meeting? How often does she actually get 30 minutes unencumbered time for lunch?

Planning is always without kids. Lunch is always without kids in the teacher's lounge or working at her desk.

I know many of her co-workers, 75% could not make it in the real world with a full year job...including her.

Lucky her.

You may be right but I’ll counter with 75% of people in the real world couldn’t make it in front of 27 10 year olds.

Before pics. I was going to rant about pensions. But I forgot all about that.

They posted an article yesterday. 1500 principles and superintendents who make over 150k a year in NJ. Over paid for what they do. Work 20 to 30 years and collect pensions for 20 to 30 years. Summers off. holidays off. 2 weeks christmas. Etc...

And they are always complaining that they are underpaid. Meantime 60+ percent of my property taxes go to education. Stop pensions and make them set up 401k like the rest of us.

Okay back to the pics.

I’d get fired because I’d actually discipline the kids since the parents don’t and they expect the teachers to deal with their bad parenting.

If you teach something, I would think you are a teacher.

This thread got super weird

I make quadruple what my wife makes

She does way more “work” on a daily basis than I do

That’s a simple fact

And I am currently playing on Blowout

I’m also overpaid (preemptive response)

You chose a better path. Not your fault. A lot of jobs do more work than you bu those people chose that path. Now go have a fireball

ya'll need to move to Washington State. My friends that have been teaching for 5 years get Nationally board certified and they're all making $80,000+. Then those that have been teaching for 20 years and get all their endorsements are $100,000. They are killing it.

What does endorsements mean?

Honest question

BINGO!

Not to mention the fact that "everything" is the teacher's fault. Try dealing with 5 or so sets of patents who think their child can do no wrong, yet the kid terrorizes a classroom on a daily basis. Oh, add on the fact that the teacher can do NOTHING about it because they get support from no one.

There are plenty of jobs that are under paid and under appreciated. And yes, some teachers are over paid. But anyone who thinks a teacher has it easy is either uninformed or ignorant. Take your pick.

I don't even know, to be honest. I know that when they get nationally certified (which I understand is a very big deal) they get like an automatic $5,000 pay raise, then when they get their master's it's like another $10,000 or something like that. Basically, there are ways to get pay increases by completing things. I don't know how many and I don't want to speak too off the cuff. All I know is when I was working 60 hours a week as a Child Protective Services social worker making $45,000 a year (with no summers off and no spring break and no 3 weeks off for Christmas and trying to keep kids from getting abused) and my teacher friends would complain about their jobs, they didn't get a lot of sympathy, lol.

The truth is most jobs have their pros and cons. I think one of the hardest parts about being a teacher is the politics and having to teach to the tests and all of that stuff. I know that is really frustrating for my friends that are teachers. Teaching isn't an "easy" job by any means. Burnout is real. BUT, I think most people feel underpaid in what they do but when you compare from an objective standpoint, teachers have it pretty good, at least where I live. I know across the border in Idaho it's pretty bad. I think any teacher who works full-time in a public school setting and is making less than 40k per year is pretty underpaid.

For the record, my undergrad is elementary ed.

$10,000 raise for a master's degree??? Many states REQUIRE a master's in order to get a job as a teacher.
