Did panini overproduce optic and prizm?? Why are his prices remaining stagnate or even dropping slightly??

Prizm they made more this year. Optic they made less. Could be partly because Trae has been balling out lately. He may be stealing a little of his shine.

- The hype trajectory has followed any other quick starting top player in a draft on a non-playoff team in the history of the hobby. I stated multiple times in the other Luka thread that prices would peak and plateau on or before the All-Star break (this is almost always what happens) and that's exactly what they did

- Other very good rookies that were selling for peanuts (Trae, Ayton) are now gaining a share of the money flow

- Almost everything across the board has more production. Panini sees the money coming in, so they churn the presses

I would say the first point is the biggest catalyst though.

If you follow that line of investing (if flipping cardboard is your thing), you'll usually make out pretty good. You will always be able to buy back later on once they're not the nightly talk of the town with the shiny new tag.

Luka is a special player. But the next major surge in pricing won't come until he's chasing some sort of historical feat, in the mvp talks, or has his team as a serious playoff contender.

I guess it comes down to overproduction. I looked at Simmons and his stuff was insanely high right at the end of last year. Now it’s down almost 50%+. Personally, I think luka is a much better player, yet his prices aren’t even coming close to Simmons RC prizm

Simmons now has 3 legit all-star talents playing alongside him. So the hobby attention and media spotlight isn't much about him as an individual talent anymore. But he's still as good as he was the previous years, maybe even better in some respects.

Yes, production definitely has something to do with it. But if you would have sold Luka's stuff a month before the AS break, you would have killed it.

Tatum and Mitchell were different because they were both on winning franchises and still had the postseason to add more potential value (they both performed well in the playoffs).

I just don’t see where this takes the hobby. Paying all the money for prizm and the best pull (for silvers) in luka doesn’t even yield a positive return on your money.

Well it's not "the" best pull. You could hit the black 1/1 which would probably sell for $10K. Or some other low numbered cards which sell for quite a bit. But yes singles is the smarter buy but you have to choose the right time to buy. Don't buy at peak hype buy in the off season. This is nothing new happens every year.

Luka is pretty active on Twitter. I tweeted to him and told him Trae's coming after him and trying to take the ROY award. I said he needs to have a big night. Hopefully he responds with a big game

My son at tonight’s game versus the Nets...

And because of my piss poor planning he got a Dirk jersey autographed for a guy visiting from Germany. The guy was thrilled.

^^^Pretty awesome. Time to flip on the game. I'll be going back and forth between this and the Hawks game.

Dang the announcers said he slipped and clutched his leg. Pulled muscle? Might be done for the night already.

Nope phew he's back in.

What the heck..Luka changed his sneakers at halftime. He was wearing a yellow pair in the first half.

Yup they're pretty terrible. Maybe they'll get lucky in the lottery and get a top 5 and be able to keep their pick. I think they're somewhere around the 8 spot in lottery position right now.

So Luka only had 16 points last night and his team got blown out. Back-to-back blowout losses sucks.

But look at those 16 points. Step back 3 from 24-25 feet out. Blow-by to the hoop. Post moves for days. This dude has everything in his game. His progression this year has been impressive. He's absorbing the NBA game and adapting.

I think the organization is intentionally trying to get in the worst top 5 range of the lottery. Makes sense they aren't going to win anything this year. Their pick goes to ATL outside of a top 5 pick. They're close they're right now they're in the 8th position with 27 wins. There's a lot of teams around 22-27 wins. Tomorrow they play the Wizards, losing to them will help their cause as the Wizards have 26 wins. Besides Luka they just aren't very good they can use all the help they can get.

Mavs would have to tank super hard to not finish with 7th or 8th worst record. Makes sense for them to want to keep their pick this season. Next year they will be a much better team and at worst be a team that finishes 12-14th in lotto if they miss the Playoffs

Makes sense, draft falls off pretty fast after the top 5 in my opinion. But there's some great talent at the top.

Of course with the lottery you never know what will happen all you get is better odds the worse you finish.

There's 4 teams that are really really bad that the Mavs will most likely finish above. But it's pretty tight race between the 5 and the 10th spot.

Mavs either get into top 4 or Hawks get a pick that’s 7th or worse
