| Sports & Politics This section is for all political sports talk. Regrettably we feel that in some instances there is no way to eliminate politics from football, basketball, and baseball hobbytalk. Do you pretend nothing is happening with the Warriors, Steelers, A's, etc? This section is for all political sports discussion. However, it is for civil discussion only. No insults aimed at members, political parties, or politicians will be tolerated. There is no warning. If you cannot be civil, you will lose your posting privileges on this site. |

If you want to force patriotism, I hear North Korea is beautiful this time of year. Maybe you would find their views on "patriotism" more your style...

I love what James Harrison said about sitting for the anthem. Always hated the guy until the "participation trophy" thing and now this.

So your comparing a silent protest by sitting to using homophobic or racial slurs?

Yea, your argument is they have a right. People have rights to use words also. So obviously the NFL does not need to accept negative actions/words. Millions of people find what these players are doing far more offensive than words.

Of course, then a player could simply protest by not putting their hand over their heart or even just raising their fist. So then the league would have to make it a blanket policy of "no disrupting the anthem or deviating from any social norms" and we'll be in full blown thought police land. |

The players get judged. Possible jersey sale decreases and no new contract are the penalty.

Personal Conduct Policy All persons associated with the NFL are required to avoid “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League.” This requirement applies to players, coaches, other team employees, owners, game officials and all others privileged to work in the National Football League. For many years, it has been well understood that rules promoting lawful, ethical, and responsible conduct serve the interests of the League, its players, and fans. Illegal or irresponsible conduct does more than simply tarnish the offender. It puts innocent people at risk, sullies the reputation of others involved in the game, and undermines public respect and support for the NFL.

You can also tell them that you don't like what they're doing, though. It's the other side of the coin.

If the league wants to ban racial slurs that are aggressive and spread hate, then by all means. Like yelling fire in a crowded room. What you talking about is FORCING someone to show patriotism. I mean seriously! "Get on your feet boy and salute that flag!" The only people who are mandated to stand for the flag or do anything specific with the flag are people who enlist in the military. You think the NFL should mandate that the players have the same kind of rules the military does reguarding the flag? What about the fans? Should be be thrown out of the stadium of not standing?

This is me.. it is literally a guy sitting on a bench not harming a soul.
The next thread will be Joe Schmo didn't take off his hat for the anthem lets kill him. Keep watching the kardashians and caring what they wear/ who they date...its IMPORTANT!

I'll agree that I'm sick of politics too and sports is a great get away from that. That said, if something politcal happens like this, I just move along to the game. Sports talk is talking about it, turn the channel. It's that simple. I'm more mad at the media for making this into a bigger thing than it really is.

I fully agree to keep Politics out of sports. Too bad that ESPN did not see this the same way.

I'd show more attention/respect to players sitting if they were actually out trying to change the things they are sitting for. Unfortunately it seems they think sitting is going to magically make things better. Sure they have the right, but what a lazy protest.

As I've stated before, that violates the NFL dress policy. But it would be their right if it wasn't. As much as I wouldn't like it, I sure wouldn't cry about it. It's not me wearing the hat.

I see we have now reached the "free speech is great, until you say something I don't like. Then shut up and don't say anything, unless you're a ______ " part of the thread.

Change your Tampon if you think that was personal. My substance is that you are really not for free speech, only for the speech/actions that you agree with (a pretty common thing these days). I must have hit the bulls eye with emotional response that you provided.
