I think $950 is underpriced for that card. He got it for a steal. If Joey Votto played for literally any other team, it would have sold for much more. (And according to most people on this board, he would be a sure fire HOF) But that's fine with me, keeps the prices down for my PC player.

Congrats on landing it. Very sweet card. That card has been on my want list for a year or more and I think this is the first listing I've seen for it (and you snagged it before I actually saw the listing). With the passage of time, these things surface so very rarely.

I don't think Pepto is the same guy who's referenced in that thread. There were 2 guys building all the Topps Black sets, and I've encountered them both while making my team sets. Pepto is outstanding (he just sold the Votto), I snagged quite a few blacks from his sets for mine. The other guy? Total weirdo, and tough to work with. Glad I never got further in any deals with him beyond initial contact.

Pepto has been pretty reasonable IMO. I've plugged a few spots in my wants for Erstad from his listings.

Agreed - I don’t think Pepto is that guy either. I remember that thread referencing the weird guy. Sure wish I could find it. He posted in the thread IIRC, and he was super defensive.

Though I did search Pepto’s name and he seems to be a shitty buyer, but an ok seller.

I found this really funny - I had messaged this Pepto guy about buying his complete 2003 (maybe 04) black set the he had listed out individually. I asked if he had a price in mind, and then wanted to verify that he could furnish the whole set for sale. He messaged me back a price that as at least 5x the amount he had each of the cards listed out individually for.

When I inquired about this discrepancy, he went absolutely haywire on me and kept messaging me about wasting his time and such (with some colorful language). Seemed to have a bit of an anger problem.

Needless to say, we didn't agree on a price. Definitely has some nice cards for sale though!

So hard to say with few comp sales and a big recent run up for Topps Black, but my back of the envelope would take the recent Scherzer BGS 9 sale and add a bit. So $5k ish? There is no exact science on this though.

There's really nowhere for this card to go but up in value in the future. A hall of fame players first Topps Black card that's also a true RC is going to be something special down the road. And with the limited print run and tough condition, prices should reflect that.
